Just make sure he is sending you an aaf from the sequence that is the result of his transcoded media. That aaf, and the media that it created should all link up in Resolve. (You may have to play with some of your conform preferences, but it should all work.

I actually had this problem a week ago. My solution was to render the clips in groups. If the error pops up, exit resolve, relaunch and continue rendering from where I left off. I was playing with graphics cards configurations at the time, so I’m blaming it on that.

If you right click on the individual files, you can call up the clips settings, and from there you can access the audio patching settings I don’t know that you can mix and match embedded with external audio, but if you can, that is where it would be.

You need to have the aaf and the media supplied separately.

If you have Avid, you can import the aaf and it will isolate the media for you. Then take that media, which will be located in you Avid MediaFiles/mxf/1 folder, and import it into Resolve.

Or, as the editor to redo the aaf, and tell him rather than to embed the media in the aaf, to select the option to put it into a specific media folder.

If it isn’t letting you trim back 1 frame, my guess would be that our material has nothing left to trim with. There is no rule saying you can’t trim back 1 frame. type -1 (or is it 1-?), or simply press the j key to trim backwards in real time.

As a side note, when I’m zoomed a bit further out on my timeline, and I notice that there is a flash edit like you have here, I usually just type -10. The trim point will always stop at the next edit, so you won’t overwrite anything from the next previous shot. And if (while zoomed out) I mistook a 2 frame flash for a 1 frame flash, the -10 will take care of both frames.

Yes, try importing the prores, and tell it to keep the source resolution. This will give you a fast import. If it is still sluggish, perhaps your drives are fast enough.

glad you got it to work. If your external audio is the wrong sample rate, or has been converted incorrectly, you will get the same issue you are describing.

You are headed down the correct path.

Keep in mind (unless you are doing a tutorial with perfect footage) that there are very few instances out there where you are going to cick on a color, and immediately pull a perfect key. Masking is going to be needed in many cases. Hopefully, you can pull a good enough key that your mask doesn’t need to be absolutely tight to the subject, but can have some breathing space.

Obviously you need to play with your ranges. turn your different settings on and off, and adjust each one indivdually. it just takes a lot of tweaking, especially if you are working with highly compressed footage.

As for the masks, perhaps you should think about working with each mask in a different node, and combine them at the end. Play with your layer nodes and see what you can come up with. Sometimes trying to do everything in 1 node is more trouble than its worth.

    my 2 cents.

Is your audio coming from a separate recording device, or embedded?
