  • Thanks Aleksey but this doesn’t work at my end.
Have you tried it? Remember, the jpg is smaller than screen reso.
Tried what you recommended and it simply puts a border on the entire video.

I came close by using cropping with the track motion but since my photo is not the screen reso (narrower) the border extends on either side, farther than the photo.

    Thanks James and John!

Thanks for your explanation John. Now… this all makes sense. 🙂
I can see a real benefit in shooting in 1080 when the final product is 720. It provides some good headroom for cropping while maintaining quality. I usually render out to 720 for my clients’ projects.

    Good afternoon fellows,

Regarding wanting to provide the best quality to a client for a video for which I need to crop (zoom in)….

Well I just did some tests using the two project properties and the resulting video’s quality looks identical. no difference at all!
It would appear that setting the property size doesn’t effect the outcome at all.

    Here’s what I did:
    1. use source footage at 1080i
    2. set proj properties to 1080/60i
    3. crop clip to width of 1000
    4. render using 720p internet template – gives video A

    5. set the proj properties to HDV 720/30p
    6. once again render clip using 720p internet template – gives video B

Video A = Video B… they look identical quality wise.

Can someone shed some light and confirm this please?

  • Hi Ed,
This is fantastic! I’ve added it to my toolkit and will tweak it.

    Thanks so much!

    Thanks Roger,
In this case it’s someone signing so this may work. If I can’t get Audacity to remove the noise, I’ll use your trick. If I can isolate the click, which is barely visible even on an expanded waveform as it’s not a spike, I will cut it out and crossfade the resulting cut.

    Thanks.

PS. I like the dogs barking overlay… clever.:)

    Thanks John,
I loaded the latest version of Audacity last night, quickly tried but didn’t work. I’ll try again today while I tweak the settings of the de-clicker.

It’s a good one to have in my toolbox regardless. Thanks for mentioning it.

  • Hi Phil,
I don’t think you understand the question/issue here.
As stated before, events are on the timeline, they have already been trimmed. I just need to add a second to all of them, at the beginning and end of each. They just need to be adjusted. Trying to find a way to automate the adjustments instead of adjusting them individually. Due to the number of events, manually adjusting them would be painful.

  • The events I’m working with have been trimmed. So there is “hidden” video before and after.

  • Thanks Theo,
I only have Ultimate and don’t really want to purchase another add-on.

I do see something in Ultimate, for stills, to set the clip to a specific size but not to extend it before/after by x seconds.
