Thanks for your view Steve. It makes me very comfortable keeping it off from now on and not feeling like I’m missing out on faster render times.
I really appreciate all the help you provided with this issue.

    Thanks Steve,
I have an i7 with the GTX 560.
Good news is that with it off, I can now render without crashing. It’s taking the same length of time as the video to render. in this case, the 2.5 hour video is taking 2.5 hours to render on my i7 12GB Ram.

The driver on the Gigabyte site is older than on Nvidia. I’ll keep the Nvidia driver.

How odd that so many SVP users turn off the GPU setting of Sony Vegas while this was hailed as an exciting new feature by Sony. So many problems with it. I don’t get it.

Thanks for hanging in with me.
It is nvopencl…. As soon as I sent my last post, I corrected it (edited).

No I hadn’t disabled GPU acceleration since it was so slow, I thought if i disable it it’ll take days to render :(. Alas, you’re onto something because it’s currently rendering… faster! i’m at 37% and I’ll post again when it completes or fails.
    Stay tuned.
    Thanks again.

    Q. my Nvidia card was from Gigabyte. Should I get the drivers from Gigabyte or Nvidia?

    Thanks Stephen,
    I’m in Toronto.
Before the window… I don’t get any message. it’s in the process of rendering and stops with the window. It just crashed again, this time at 27% with
    “Problem report” (window title)
message: :Vegas Pro has stopped working ”

I showed problem details this time I have:
    fault module: nvopencl.dll
which is diff than before. I did change my project settings in an attempt to resolve this. and upgraded to build 714 (I had the one previous)

I get that standard dialog box with the “send” details to Sony option.
I’ll give the window title as soon as it crashes again.

In looking at the crash “details” it his ntdll.dll which runs when the crash occurs. Searched on this and found various vague reasons, no real fix.

I was hoping that the fact that it takes so long to render to mpg2 (or is this to be expected?) would tip someone off to the cause.

Not likely Steve. If this were the case it would crash at a consistent place. it crashes at various places. Each time I try, 2 hours or so goes by before (so far) before it crashes at various places.

and as mentioned… the render takes a looooong time.
I’m really stuck here as I have to crate a DVD for a client and can not.

    Nigel,
The problem is not with DVDA… it’s with rendering to an mpg2 using a DVDA NTSC widescreen Sony Vegas templates. I don’t get as far as DVDA… I’m still trying to get the mpg2 file created… but can’t as described in this post.

    Hi Graham,
Pardon my ignorance but I don’t understand. DO you not render to mpg 2 for creating DVDs?

Hi Stephen, I have Vasst Ultimate pro which has an audit util.
I just ran it and attempted a render.

After 2 hours or so of slow rendering, Vegas crashed again this time at 57%. Very frustrating!

Does anyone have any ideas aside from throwing Vegas in the garbage :)?
