Thanks for the feedback Mat. I just got a quote for the LaCie SATA system which looks very competitive. GGParis

    Thanks everyone.
Sorry for the lack of codec info etc. Not got to the stage of working out the telecine set-up yet, this is a project in the pipeline. Ive got a six week head start on production to get my gear bought and set up, so am trying to prepare as best i can within the various budget limitations.

Thanks for the clarity about lacie drives, i am glad i am hearing it now. I am sure lacie will sort themselves out in good time. For now I am onto getting a new quote for a SATA RAID system in 250GB partitions. I plan to clone all my media to enable two stations to run without the expense of fibre cahnnel / xsan etc. If the SATA proves too expensive for the money men, i’ll try G-RAID which alot of you seem to like also.

Any new developments and i’ll be back on searching your collective knowledge. I love this forum. Thanks. GGParis

    thanx debe,
yes he is writing the cheque ! but i will get what i want if the arguments good enough. Colour is not a big issue in this case. I was a bit worried about the sync playback issues in Final Cut Pro that I am hearing about. I know that if you go out to video monitor there is no problrm. Just wanted to be sure the same was true for LCD monitors. Thannks GG

Just looking at Video Monitoring. Was going to use a Sony Underscan monitor but my director prefers to buy an LCD monitor for viewing. LCD is fullframe I think but are there any other FCPro issues I should consider before agreeing to this choice.
    thanks again

thanks walter, tell me, does this mean you can now both assemble edit and insert edit to a prestripped DV Tape in FCutPro?

For an assembly edit are you obliged to prestripe the whole tape, or just the first few minutes, or do you simply crash a timecode onto unstripped tapes?

My background is Avid based so I am used to prestripping the first few minutes of my betas with colour bars and tone, then assembly editing to a set start point on the tape.

As for the Deck I have heard good things about the Sony DSR-11. The few problems I see are that it has no Timecode display, or audio monitoring. I need a deck that can work equally afficiently in NTSC and PAL. I will check the back forums for more tips.

    Thanks GGParis
