I had the same type of problem with some HDV footage that I imported over my home network from a windows xp computer from a sony HVR-DR60 fat32 hard drive unit that I cannot get files to import directly onto my new Dell windows 7 64bit icore7 computer. I used vegas import from hard drive feature and imported the footage directly over my home network into my windows 7 computer while the hard drive was connected to the xp computer. These imported files for some reason caused vegas to lock up and were unusable in vegas pro 9c. So then I used sony’s import video utility on the xp computer to transfer the files onto that computer from the HVR-DR 60 and then transferred to files over the home network to my windows 7 computer and the files worked fine with no problems in vegas. I don’t know if this has any bearing on others issues but I thought I would share this experience.

I found that I didn’t have the firewire cable fully pushed in and was able to get the hard drive unit recognized by windows 7 but neither sony vegas nor the utility provided by sony would tranfer the files without stopping and getting an error message. I therefore hooked the unit into another windows xp computer on my home network and transferred the files using sony’s utility for file transfer with no problems. I have a dell windows 7 64 bit computer with an icore 7 processor. I’m wondering if the processor is in some way incompatible with this unit. What type processor is on your computer John?

Yes, but I cannot import files directly into my windows 7 machine because the hard drive which is fat32 via firwire is not recognized by windows 7. Therefore the software provided by sony cannot detect it either. As I said I did work around this by importing the files into another computer on my home network that uses windows XP. I doubt any support for this sony hard drive will be forth coming for windows 7 computers.

If anyone wants to know today I was able to transfer my footage to a windows xp computer on my home network using sony’s utility program and then I transferred the files over my home network to my windows 7 64 bit computer and the files worked fine in sony vegas pro 9 64 bit.

I had the same problem and noticed that if you hit the button that says reconnect just after the start of the record process that it will then start to capture video.

I have the same camera and just bought the same hard drive unit that the original poster is asking about. I am using a windows 7 64-bit system and the hard drive which connects by firewire is not recognized by my computer. I hooked the unit up to a different computer on my home network that uses windows XP then transferred the video data over the network by using Sony Vegas pro 9’s hard drive import feature. This worked but then for some reason these files were choking vegas 9 and leading to system crashes. I tried using the 32 bit version of vegas 9 on my computer with the same problems, so I don’t know if I am going to be able to use my hard drive. I have had no problems when capturing the video into vegas via tape with the camera connected directly to my computer.

You may need to change premier pro to run in windows xp compatibility mode by right clicking on the icon and clicking on “properties” then clicking on the “compatibility tab” then clicking “win xp compatibility mode”. I am running a new windows 7 64 bit computer and premier pro 1.5 and did this to make the program function properly.
