yes, alot of software dvd players now play DVD’s from DVD Folders on your hard drive. As mentioned, my favorite is PowerDVD. Some others I have used are WinDVD and Ulead’s Software DVD Player

What DVD Authoring software are you using?

Is it a “middle” section of an .avi, or does it start at a certain spot, and play to the end of the video?

are you playing from a DVD Player, or from some other source? If DVD Player, is your format NTSC with IRE setup (like North America NTSC vs. Japan NTSC).

You could be seeing the effects of a DVD Player/IRE Setup — it might make your whites looked “washed out”

  • Do you happen to have multiple audio tracks in your project? The total bitrate is your video + all audio tracks.

Also, check the header info for your video — is it possible the header info has the wrong bitrate??? (I’m not familiar with FCP)

I’ve heard a couple of reasons:

-the glue dries differently in certain areas of the label, causing possible tension and “warpness” in the dvd surface.
Since the inside of a dvd player gets quite hot (feel one of your dvd’s after playing it for a couple of hours) the heat can cause the glue on your sticky label to do bad things…

-applying the label slightly off center can cause a slight imbalance in your dvd. The imbalance might be enough to cause problems during playback.

I don’t use sticky labels, but I’ve read where people do use them, and have never had a problem. Maybe it comes down to the quality of the labels, the label applicator, and the dvd surface???

April 24, 2005 at 1:30 pm in reply to: How do I make a 4 GB DATA DVD??

Ulead’s DVD MovieFactory 4.0 Disc Creator allows you to make data DVD’s (as I’m sure other apps do).

  • I’m leaning towards the DVD Player — since he is trying to play an NTSC Formatted disc in a PAL DVD Player (many of the PAL DVD Players do it, but that doesn’t mean they all do, or whether they do a good job).

  • Not ALL PAL DVD Players will play NTSC DVD’s properly. Do you have any Retail NTSC DVD’s to try in the PAL DVD Player that doesn’t work — it could just be the “standards” conversion is not available for those clients who are having problems…
