August 15, 2007 at 11:35 pm in reply to: Loss of Quality on Exporting from Premiere Pro 2Maybe clueless in Canada – but you said you are exporting 720×480, but the spec you provided calls for 640×480?? Is the distribution system re-scaling the already compressed output?

August 7, 2007 at 9:51 pm in reply to: New bundle – RT.X2 with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 UpgradeUp here in Toronto Canada it is hard to find a dealer with a clue. When I bought the RT2000, it came in a box with a return policy that expired when it went out the door. However, since I complain incessantly about stuff from China, maybe it is worth giving a Canadian company another try when I build the CS3 machine. Please God they keep it compatible with XP for a few years.

Are you possibly on a domain with user documents and setting redirection group policy pointing to P? That might be a clue, if PPro is looking for your domuments folder and finds it on a network drive.

July 20, 2007 at 9:16 pm in reply to: WMV export issue—player always jumps to beginningQT files are way to large compared to wmv and wmv will do this just fine. Have your client save the file to their computer, then they can easily jump around. Hard to do if you just send a link to the file in an email, put the link in a web page so they can choose save target as…Or let them dig it out of their internet temporary files but that might be a bit complex for some people.

I clip my Sony or Sennheiser wireless receiver (mostly just one) onto the handstrap, but there are a number of hot shoe adapters that have multiple clipping places as well. On another cameram I have a large nylon vable tie wraped around part of the body that is easy to clip onto. And someone makes a thing called the Rover (??) And the Fig Rig has lots of space for lots of stuff – but does indeed look diabolical

Agreed – its the way WMP 9 to 11 work – but the user can also configure it to loop forever. What Flash does depends on the way you program Flash actionscript, or if its in a web page, the way you specify the parameters. Left to its own devices Flash loops forever. An flv in Flash depeneds again on actionscript.

I am not a young guy saying this but:
1) No one needs to respond to these ads. These producers are as flakey as their requests. Ignore them.
2) There is no more value in a 50 year old guy unloading a truck than a 20 year old. Maybe less because the 20 year old has more stamina. The job is to get the truck unloaded. If the 50 year old is as effective and has the same cost then no one would care. If a power tailgate would do it, even better from an economics and workflow perspective. (remember the Luddites)
3) there is probably not more value in a 30 year experience (regardless of age) camera man than one with 5 years experience. The fact that you know how to balance a tube camera is not that valuable a skill today. If there is no more value, then why would you expect to get paid more? Just because you have a mortgage? How is that an issue for a production?
4) Look at the auto industry for the future of unionized work environments. Cars are coming from China as we speak. $70/hr to drive a car off the end of the line is way too much, and the customer wont pay it. TV and video work is moving off shore in a big hurry. Remember Cold Mountain?
5) Don’t get me started on union job divisions. What makes a person operating a camera incapable of plugging in the power cord?
