[Ed] “I guess I could use a new MacBook for FCP, and use my G5 for Photoshop and AE.”

…or you could install WinXP and run Photoshop in there…apparently it’s the fastest Windows XP notebook available 🙂

If you can get someone to shoot them, I will be happy to cut thme together and stamp DVDs. Being remote from your vvaluable meetings really stinks and I know many of us woudl enjoy them. I am happy to even post podcasts on iTunes if you would like.

I hope you are not interpreting my post as a downer on Motion. I think it’s a fabulous app. My point is the users need to bring a reality check to the surface so that people are informed as to what the real situation is with the realtime aspects of the app.

Then again, having a good steady stream of “Why is Motion so slow” posts keeps the forum alive 🙂

Well, I think the point is that it doesn’t take much to bring it to it’s knees and people need to understand that. Motion has many other features and benefits to recommend it aside from “RT performance”. The problem is that many don’t buy it for those features and are disappointed/frustrated when they see what the performance is really like.

[Onomontopeka] “I also heard that Photoshop won’t be avaliable until next year
for Intels…any truth to that? What about other Adobe stuff?”

I sure hope not. I am seriously looking at a MBP and woudl hate to not have my most important tools be that sluggish for more thna 6 months 🙁

I am hoping for summer or early fall but I may be a bit optimistic.

Why is i that none of the benchmarks actually measure the playback speed as well as the export/rendering times? One of the major features of Motion is interactive feedback. Maybe the fps numbers are just too low to worry about 🙁

I ma eat my hat on this but, I suspect that we will not see a *major* update to FCP this NAB so, this deal is really safe. I am also thinking that if they did they may offer a $99 upgrade to FCP 6 and you would still be very much ahead.

You will want to stick with Nvidia H/W for the moment as they have the best OpenGL implementation. For $200, I would see if you could find either a discounted 6800GT or a 6800GS. The 7800GT or GTX is more ideal but, they are also in the $300 range.
