What render format are you using? What are the settings in the format template? A screenshot of the render template settings would be best to post here and would look something like this

With your pointer on the preview window, right click. From the pop-up window ‘Scale Video to Fit Preview Window’ should be checked.

One way………reduce the bit rate of the video in the render format template. The lower the bit rate, the lower the video quality and the faster it will render. If all you have are stills, the bit rate could be lowered quite a bit and still get reasonable quality in your rendered video.
If you get more specific about what version of Vegas Pro you are using and which render format and template settings you are using, we could possibly get more specific about settings that would render faster.
As you are testing I would use a project with just 1 minute of stills and audio so your test wouldn’t take long to render but that would be long enough to get a comparison of the speed difference between different render settings.

One way………Move the cursor to the far left of the track. This adjust will effect everything on the track. Select ‘Track Motion’ from the track header. At the top of the Track Motion window, deselect ‘Lock Aspect Ratio’, then on the left under ‘Position’, adjust the ‘Width’ to the pixel size to equal an aspect ratio of 4:3 of the ‘Height’. When rendering adjust the pixel width and height to equal 4:3.

This note is listed for Magix Vegas Pro 15 (build 216) in the ‘Features’, 4K, 10-bit 4:2:2 AVC files from the Panasonic GH5 camera are now supported
What build of Vegas 15 are you using? (although if you have tested with the VP16, it should have that feature)
Are you using a proxy file or the source media on the timeline? To take advantage of smoother preview using a proxy file, the preview quality has to be ‘Draft’ or ‘Preview’, as using ‘Good’ or ‘Best’ Vegas will revert back to using the source media.
As Aron suggested, have you tried to convert your source to MXF or Sony XAVC format and how does that perform?
If you set your GH5 to MOV (Rec Format), and LPCM 100 Mbps (Rec Quality), do those files then perform better in Vegas?

Left click on ‘Options’, hold down the ‘Shift’ key and left click on ‘Preferences’, then left click on the ‘Internal’ tab.
In the search window at the bottom type in ‘main’. The window will find and list ‘Enable Legacy (Mainconcept AVC/AAC and HVEC) render plugins’. Change the ‘Value’ from ‘FALSE’ to ‘TRUE’. Left click on ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’.
You will then have the old Mainconcept AVC format and templates available, although I would assume you will see no better render quality than the Magix AVC. Marco may have posted a better solution than the Mainconcept render.

Can you roll back the driver to your Geforce GTX 660? I’ve never been on Win 10, but I have read it likes to install drivers and perhaps the driver it installed for your GPU is a later version than the one you were using in Win 8.1. Just a thought.

Wayne, what version and build of Vegas are you using. I seem to remember there was a fix in Vegas Pro 16 for some kind of compatibility issue with GH5 source media, but do not remember what the issue is.

Right click on the track header (far left of track where the Track Motion, Track FX, etc options), in the drop down menu un-check ‘Expand Track Layers’.

Brent, have you done a full reset of Vegas Pro, Crtl+Shift, double left click on the Vegas desktop icon. Make sure to check ‘Delete all cached application data’, then click on ‘Yes’
