Thanks for reply. I did just that and it states
Secondary IDE Channel ( this is an external USB drive 2.0)

    Device 0
Devise Type Auto Detection ( Grayed out)
    Transfer Mode DMA if available
    Current Transfer Mode PIO Mode

Can’t figure out how to change to DMA mode.

Thanks for reply. How can I tell if I drive is running in DMA mode. If it is’t how do I switch to it. If I had to switch to it will my data in hard drive be in jeopardy? Thanks George

Sorry I meant 400 Gig of space. An added note. I decided to capture file on another hard drive, call it Drive B, and I was able to capture. Thus Nothing wrong with camcorder or cable or software. For some reason the other hard drive, call it drive A, is not able to write capture video. When I capture the new material on other hard drive, drive B, I copies all AVI to other hard drive, drive A, and I was able to copy files. I think my problem might be with buffer underrun. Could it be tha hard drive I am having a problem can’t keep up with writing footage or maybe not enough buffer to keep up with hard drive. Any thoughts? Thank You George

No way I have 400mb of free hard drive space. In addition if the firewire cable was bad would I still be able to view footage in preview window. It runs fine until I click on Capture Video icon and then preview window freezes. It seems strange that I was able to capture 8 tapes then all of the sudden can’t capture anymore. Could use some more suggestions of what the problem might be. Thanks George

Is there a better way of doing this, such as using another software program, such as soundforge or audition, in translating a wave file into 5.1 surround sound?
