June 29, 2012 at 12:33 am in reply to: Browse Catalog Screen, Layout Prefs and Description RequestYou are correct. I am looking for customization of the Browse Catalogs window….both questions apply to that. I understand that I can customize the Summary, Log Notes, etc. in a catalog view.
I want to the Browse Catalogs window to default to the last settings (for instance, I stretch it out wide, move/rearrange the headers.) Second, I stretch out the Browse Catalogs window and stretch out DESCRIPTION as wide as I can…which wastes space. Therefore, I want it to be multiline….
Thanks for your help tho…best, geof.

Thanks for your help. We found a player on E-bay that fit our needs.

Can’t see the forest for the trees. This makes plenty of sense.
Thanks for all help. Gg. -
Thanks for your response. Trying to create a website of our video library using just catdv pro. Understand the HTML export had limitations, just hoping I had missed something. FWIW, and realize I am just one user, twice the size would be perfect! 🙂

December 14, 2011 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Export Failed Final Cut Pro: Error Writing to FileThanks Ian. Went to another edit station that is working and noticed a difference in CREATE INTERMEDIATE FILES IN dialogue in the Sony XDCAM Export interface in FCP. The one that was working had “/Library/Caches/Sony XDCAM Transfer.” The non-working machine just had “/”. Apparently a deleted location or a never specified location for the intermediate files? Chose a location for the intermediate files on the non-working system and now everything is working.
Just goes to show you, “It’s always something!”–Radner
thanks for your help. geof.

Hello, You can EXPORT TO XDCAM via the FILE, EXPORT, SONY XDCAM in Final Cut.
1) Connect XDCAMHD deck or PDWU1 to computer. Insert XDCAM disc. If disc isn;t formatted, format disc. Disc should appear on desktop as untitled. (If you are using a XDCAM deck, you may have to allow PC control via the menu settings on the deck.)
2) Go to final cut pro. Click in timeline to select sequence to export.
3) FIle, Export, SonyXDCAM.
4) Follow directions in dialog box….rendering may occur, and then transfer will occur. -
THANKS. Appreciate the advice on the workflow. Haven’t hooked up monitor yet, just got card installed and machine/computer and FCP installed, updated, etc. Do you have suggestions as to monitoring? Obviously something other than the computer monitor. We typically use TVLOgic 7 or 17 inch for monitoring.

Thanks Ian and others–I appreciate your responses.
The real key here is “quick” and while a MacBookPro does allow editing from the SxS cards directly in FCP or others, the timeline still has to be exported which can be a deal breaker in a time crunch. (Plus, I’m an old dog that likes to press buttons.)
The HR1 with the SxS option uses EDLs and real-time transcoding to handle edits from SxS–>Optical. It’s not really the best solution for on the fly editing.
Ian, can you provide more information about how editing is accomplished and output via the HR1?
Thanks, Geof.

Just to clarify some information in case others search for this topic again. Both methods listed above work to archive SxS cards.
I was interested in determining if there was any quality loss between the two methods. I imported clips from the SxS card using XDCAM transfer. I then transferred the same clips via XDCAM Clip Browser to an XDCAM HD disc and imported these clips using XDCAM transfer.
Opened a Final Cut Project and placed them side by side and there was no noticeable difference. The only difference I could determine was the file size. The original SxS clips were 1.5 times smaller than the XDCAMHD clips after transfer.
So if you are archiving a full 16GB SxS card, you’ll need to use a 50GB XDCAM disc.
