  • Thanks John.

The panoramic image is huge so I have to zoom in and then pan. The problem with the track motion happens there. The track resolution is at the project resolution so when I zoom in to the area, that image starts at the project resolution then gets worse as I zoom in. When it’s done at the event level, it maintains the event resolution for the zoom and pan (or crop and pan) while the final output is maintained at the project resolution. There’s a few threads out there that discuss this phenomenon.

I have seen your tutorial with the motor cycle and it had a lot of information in it but as you know, you are tracking an effect (the time warp) to the numbers or in the second case you track the blur effect to the numbers.

Essentially what I’d like to do is similar to the blur but, using your example, I’d want another video to be playing inside the area where the numbers. I’ll try what you suggested.

  • I tried the using the parent child method and I see how it would work but the result wasn’t good enough because the detailed resolution of the original image gets lost. I’m not sure of the mechanics of it, but it has something to do with using the track motion vs at the event level.

I downloaded a trial for Boris continuum but I haven’t figured out the technique. It seems I’m supposed to pick an effect that has motion track settings but I don’t know what effect to pick. I don’t really want an effect. I just want the video on a lower track to stay inside the transparent screen of the image on the upper track. Maybe I shouldn’t use a transparent TV screen but instead, use a solid color then try the chroma key effect.

  • Thanks to everyone who replied. I’ll check out the tutorial and report back. I’ll also look into the 3rd party plug-in option.

I’ve answered my own question. I found blackmagic codec options in AME under the Microsoft AVI format in the Video CODEC pulldown list. (I’m not sure if this was there before I installed the PP functional content.)

I still see no sequence presets for blackmagic encoded video but I can just drag the clip to the “new item” button and a sequence based on the clip properties will be created.

Thanks for the response. I also gathered, through several other posts on the web, that the quality setting is functionless with the firewire capture of HDV data.

About 1440×1080; I wouldn’t call the stretched version “True” HD 1920×1080. By stretching it, you don’t get a pixel to pixel map. It’s an anamorphic process. I’m not sure of the processing involved, but when 1440 pixels are being stretched across 1920 pixels, it’s not True 1920. The process to map the 1440 across 1920 pixels when restoring the aspect ratio is done in a way that makes it hard to tell (maybe it alternates, by line which pixels get streted. Who knows?). It still looks great and depending on lens and sensor quality, it could be as good or better than some true 1920×1080 cameras.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but..

When you download a black magic driver and run the msi file (windows), it says it can’t be installed without the hardware installed.

I don’t have any black magic hardware but I do have several black magic encoded files from Debenham media (16mm film transfers).

What would I need to download at https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/software/ that would allow the codec to install.

While I’m at it, I’ve read there are Premiere Pro sequence presets for black magic (which I don’t have). If I want to preserve an edited project in the lossless format, what sequence settings and what media encoder options do I select in Premiere Pro CS5? Is there a place to get the sequence presets or can you point me to a place that describes the settings so I can create my own custom settings?
