  • Hi Paolo,
I looked on your site and could only find the TrueColor setting for the 250. Do you still have the HD100/HD111 settings? Or will the 250 settings be ok?

As soon as I hear about the RED Scarlet I thought it would be the obvious choice for any minor/no budget filmmaking, but there doesnt seem to be even the smallest inkling of its release date or availibilty… So I guess the real question would be how long are you willing to wait ?

Im not sure about Poser, but with other 3d packages you can use Voodoo Camera tracker quite successfully:

Maybe have a quick look on YouTube, there are some examples of using Voodoo, and also a few tutorials on how to get footage in. I primarily use Blender, but Im sure there will be a work-around somewhere along this route.

I’m a fellow GY-hd111 owner (and a fellow Gary!) and I have to say that I’ve had a little experience with both the Letus and the SGblade. One thing that you really cant account enough for is the sheer length of you camera after you add extra glass on the front. DOF comes with a huge trade off in terms of size and weight and as good as it looks it increases your production time vastly. DOF is only one part of a production, and I’d advise strongly to look at lighting, set design and well thought out blocking before jumping on the adaptor bandwagon.
That’s not to say that I don’t think that some productions look amazing with the use of adaptors – and I certainly don’t think that its only worth adding adaptors to higher resolution cameras – 720p should be enough to get amazing results, particularly with the HD111.
Unfortunately there’s no right or wrong answer, maybe Google Philip Bloom – he has a lot of material on DOF adaptors

I’ve been having some problems with my camera, but I agree, you can get some great images from the proHD range. If JVC are willing to replace parts then I suppose everythings all good! Any time I’ve called people with JVC Europe I’ve had great customer service – and they take time to listen to your problem and your specific filming setup and equipment. Keep posting and let me know how you get on 😀

    Hi Johnny,
Im connecting via a composite cable. The problem sounds extremely similar to macro-‘blockines’ but with a whole host of other little things that muck up the image. And to top it all off, the doofus who looked at the camera in the shop snapped the clasp that holds the cover over playback controls (and I only noticed when I got home). Im taking the camera back tomorrow and its going to be sent to JVC. With a bit of luck they’ll be able to look at every part of the camera and resolve whatevers going on (before my warantee runs out!)

In the meantime my pilot episode has to take a shooting break for a few weeks until the issue is sorted, which is a bit frustrating…

It might sound like a stupid thing to say, but have you checked you’ve inserted the firewire into the camera correctly – it is possible to put the cable in upside down and once the cameras powered up it fries the firewire circuit… aslo have you tried capturing both in DV and HDV? might give an indication as to where the problem lies….

    Hi Johnny,
I thought I’d give you a quick update… I took the camera back to the shop and he plugged it into a 7inch monitor and the image looked fine. He asked me to send him some footage when I got back home so he can see the grain Im talking about.
I’m a little dissapointed because I got home and plugged the camera into a 26″ tv and looked at the live output and it was terrible. Even in the best lighted conditions Im getting lots of noise – totally uacceptible for film prints and televison (albeit low-budget) work. I’m thinking as a last ditch effort I’ll send it to JVC for servicing , and hope they pick up the problem. With the ever-looming end of warantee I want to avoid a large repair cost

Thanks for your help and support
