Thanks for the reply. Does that mean that Final Cut could detect flagged frames on capture and only save the relevant frames. With a 24P capture would it be able to capture only 24 frames per second and save me from having to have a the full bandwidth of a 720/60p capture?If the info you found about the AD and DSP is correct I am thinking uncompressed captures from from this camera should Beautiful! I am just hoping I can get by with a fast RAID instead of a super fast raid. Has Panasonic announced anything about about the ability to switch output to RGB?

Hi David,
On the BitJazz web site they mention it is possible to do 10 bit HD uncompressed on a single firewire 800 drive. Can you confirm this? Are you using SheerVideo as a capture codec?

I think one thing that I think that I keep hearing about the Decklink cards is that downconversion quality is in question. I only hear great things about the AJA cards but it would be great to do a head to head comparison.

In fact the guys at AJA say the Kona cards use basically the same hardware as their broadcast quality standalone converters. I never here anyone complaining about their quality.

Another interesting product coming up will be the release of the direct to disk recorder the guys at Cineform are working on. They say it should be the same quality as their ProspectHD systems with the benefit of analog and HD-SDI I/O. I have a Love (mostly) and Hate (rarely) relationship with my HDV camera but I think many of the problems I have had will be ameliorated with the release of a recorder of this type, but of course the proof will be in the footage.

I would be interested in seeing how the array performs at say 70% and 90% full. That card does sound interesting for a PC solution I think Mody is a Mac user. Since the Mac card only has two internal bays Mac users prefer external solutions for HD. I work with both Macs and PCs and even on my PCs I am looking at external storage solutions because of better heat dissipation and portability they provide. I think the card alot of Mac users might get excited about would be a PCI-e version of the 2240 with Mac drivers.The problem you are having with your array is related to a maximum volume size of 2TB. There are some drivers that allow you to get around this I think so you might want to check with High Point. Thanks for the report!

Yep, and that is exactly the reason why for what I am buying my first G5 for my studio. Because as bad as these problems are on the Mac I believe the are much worse for PC users where a mandatory update to something like Windows XP service Pack 2 can break a third party vendors driver.
Sure things with Apple are not nearly as smooth as the will be with a turnkey system from a company like AVID. But since I am paying 1/10 the cost I will try not smile all the way to the bank. Sure I wish I was working on a turn key Inferno but I’ll settle for what I have right now.
