I’ve tried it on 3 different systems, laptops, and desktops. I hook up the firewire to the deck, sometimes the system sees the deck, sometimes it doesn’t. I currently have it working consistently, hooked up to an old Imac. I’ve upgraded the br50 firmware to the latest and tried different cables. Sometimes, I was able to fix it by switching to dvcam, and then back to hdv. Sometimes, I was able to fix it by disabling the firewire drivers and reinstalling them. I can’t explain it but it’s currently working on one computer so I’ll try to keep using it there.

    Thanks,
    Gary R.

I thought that you needed the latest update of FCPro 6 to play the files.

Thanks guys! That Zoom R 16 (when it becomes available) is exactly what I’m looking for at the right price, assuming it works well.

    Thanks,

Thanks guys. The Zoom gets two of it’s tracks from a built in mic doesn’t it? I’m looking for 4 distinct line-in’s ideally. The Sound Devices unit looks great but runs a few thousand. The Edirol R-44 runs around $900. Is there anything else that you know of in this range or below? I’m considering the Mbox 2 Pro with a laptop also.

    Thanks,

  • Hi John,
I took some sample clips from the NAB show floor home on an SD card. There is a hardware addon to the 700 camera (about $500 bundled with the camera from bhphotovideo) that allows you to capture mp4 files (in addition to the quicktime files) which you can edit in almost any edit system. I tested them in Vegas and Newtek SpeedEDIT and they work great. The native quicktime files are another story and didn’t work properly in either of those systems or Final Cut 5.0, so you may be required to upgrade Final Cut to work with them. I’m looking at the JVC 700 camera and Xdcam EX 3. They both look great to me.
