What is the resolution of the photos? What is your sequence setting in FCP? Do you have to scale the photos at all in FCP?

Before using the settings that Neal pointed you to, export out of FCP as a self-contained movie using the current settings. Keep that as your “compression master” to use if you should ever want to compress for anything else, such as a DVD, mobile device, etc.

You should also make sure you install QuickTime 7 again – the default with Snow Leopard is QuickTime X which has its own issues (or is it just me?). QT 7 should be in the ‘Optional Software Installation” folder (or whatever it’s called) on the Snow Leopard disc.

GarageBand? Soundtrack Pro? – these are do-it-yourself music creation tools you might already have. You don’t necessarily have to be a musician, but it helps to have some “musical sense” when it comes to arranging and mixing loops.

Hmmm… hard to say what’s happened and where. Starting at the beginning, what was your original footage source (SD 4:3 or widescreen… or HD)? What was your sequence setting in FCP? You said in your original post that you exported out of FCP as a QuickTime movie – was that a self-contained movie at current settings or did you make any adjustments? Could you post a screen grab of your FCP canvas as well as the final DVD Player screen so we can see the difference?

Using the DVD presets should create two separate files – a .m2v (video) and a .ac3 (audio). Bring both of these into DVD SP and author.

Regardless of whose suggested workflow you use (Andrew’s, Steve’s or Brad’s) for making your DVD assets, just remember that DVD is SD not HD and you need to author your project as such. I’d hate to see a post from you down the road that says – “my DVD only plays on my Mac”. There is no such thing as an HD-DVD, even though DVD SP offers it.

Glad to hear it Zoe. Sounds like you’re approaching the challenges in a sensible way.
[Zoe Weslowski] “I did figure out where to change the compression settings and I did that as Pro Res 422 Proxy – I was able to create a usable MOV file, however there was a green bar. Another post told me to try just ProRes or Prores HQ so I am going to see if those are export options on MPEG Stream clip, I’m guessing if they were recommended then they should be there.”
