[Geoff Dills]When we went from 3/4 inch tape to betacam no one cried, “How do I play my old tapes on this new machine?” because it would be stupid.

Frankly, I’m amazed that you didn’t give the slightest thought to this analogy before writing it down for all to see. That’s an entirely different format change, not a new 3/4 Tape Deck that doesn’t play 3/4 Inch Tapes anymore.

Besides, I think you are placing more importance on the backwards compatibility that the user group here is. Apple killed their own product, leaving no room for transition (puts you in quite a pickle if you need new seats) while leaving a product that does not have the same functionality THAT IS REQUIRED FOR THE JOB AT HAND. How many times do we have to go over this point? Too much ignorance floating around here with the rabid FCPX fanbase it seems.

BTW, nothing you’ve said about your experience in any way validates your opinion.

Andree, your post makes no sense at all.

[Geoff Dills]Google me if you doubt my cred.

I did and if this is you, then I fail to see where your experience jives with being able to diss professionals who feel abandoned by Apple who EOL’d FCP 7 and didn’t provide complimentary functionality in FCPX.

[Geoff Dills]My sense is the “pros” saw their skillset value suddenly plummet in the market place (though I suspect that’s only in their own heads…the ability to use tools to tell stories will always be marketable) and have continually found any way they can to denigrate this software as “crap”.

Well, Geoff, your sense is dead wrong.

This makes it sound like you think the review was negative.

[Craig Seeman]Are you confusing connected clips with secondary storylines. Connected clips only have a vertical relationship. Secondary Storyline has a horizontal relationship and maintains one connection to the Primary Storyline.

I think everyone should read this over and over again a few times until they realize how silly this sounds with Apple’s brand-Spankin’-new terminology(tm)!

I don’t think the bandwidth is there to use it for any project that’s not shot in some variant of H.264/XDCam EX.

[Bill Davis]Well that’s kind of presumptuous, don’t you think?

You think the FCP development team sat down and said “Hey, lets’ screw with our customers and change what we call things in order to make their lives miserable.”???

Why does it have to be this particular scenario? Maybe they didn’t think they, maybe they just thought they were being cool.

The thinking behind their changing naming conventions might not be intuitive to you or to me – but that does NOT imply that it was done without thought or consideration.

    Perhaps someday we’ll learn why.

That’s being just as presumptuous, and why do you give this almost religious-like power to a tech company…as if everything they do is ABSOLUTELY right and only we need to see it, even if its purpose is not fully understood until due time?

[Liam Hall]Though, I can’t work out why people are getting so hot and bothered over what Apple has called certain functions in FCPX. Language evolves. So do editing systems.

Because it was change merely for the sake of it.

[Liam Hall]EDL is an acronym. Nothing wrong with that. And I can never understand anything my mechanic says – which kind of proves my point:)

I didn’t know a lot of the terms when I first started out, but I wasn’t so arrogant that I didn’t learn them as I gained experience. If there is “exclusion” it’s your own fault.
