    came across this yesterday
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/novacut/novacut-pro-video-editor

The idea is a cloud based open source editor. I have no doubt that this project was started way before the FCPX launch, but from reading the info on the kickstart it seems like a lot of the kickstart campaign is sort of based around negative reactions to FCPX
    Some quotes from the page
“We believe a truly great creative tool cannot be designed in secret; it must be designed in open dialog with creators.”
“Your edits are priceless and we will maintain backward compatibility forever”
“Our roadmaps will be published, our process transparent”
“We’ll ask you what you need, and we’ll listen when you tell us”

Problem I see is it’s trying to be touted as a Modern Professional Editor, but only supports HDSLR cameras, and really only Canon HDSLR cameras.

I think there’s some really good foundational concepts here, but it just seems really limited in it’s scope.

I don’t think the bandwidth is there to use it for any project that’s not shot in some variant of H.264/XDCam EX.

It all eventually comes down to costs. If someone shooting Canon DLSR’s can find a way to save
money and deliver an acceptable product then it might be useful to some. Assuming it works when
    it appears.
