Compression artifacts. Cable companies in particular are compressing the heck out of the signals to maximize the bandwidth. Yes it’s frustrating. As far as a work around I don’t know if there is one.

[kim krause] “hipster was able to do coffee and edit in one place! hmmmm makes ya think!”

How would the hipster handle color grading on an iPad ?

He wouldn’t use a workstation, a control surface, real time waveform/vector scopes or a broadcast monitor because those are old school tools reserved for the dinosaurs.

You’re right, the hipster is going to look really cool editing on his iPad at the coffee shop. The old fart will simply pick up his coffee and go home because he finished his edit hours ago.

There’s no industry standard. Your rate is dependent on your skill set and your market.

Freudian slip? Tell us how you really feel about editing on an iPad.

[Tim Vaughan] “there is talk (rumor, talk, speculation–all at your own risk) that around or after IBC there could be some sort of release date or maybe just an announcement.”
FWIW, I’ve heard the same thing – there will be an announcement about a month from now. I would expect the actual release date to be 6-8 months away. Just a guess.

Doing a dissolve on an audio track has certainly become more complicated.

[Adam McDermott] ” I’m envious of the nights and weekends they have off.”

[Adam McDermott] ” …help get me a job in multi-media, one that doesn’t involve working nights and weekends.”

Are you passionate about the craft or are you looking for free time on the weekends?

Working in the production industry involves a ton of late nights and working over the weekend. If you’re just starting out, working nights and weekends may be the only way to get your foot in the door. If you freelance for a living your schedule is always subject to change. You might have planned to do something over the weekend and then a client calls with a job for Saturday. You’re not going to turn down the work. The people that are successful in this industry do what it takes to get the job done (working long hours, etc.) because they are passionate about the craft.

Depending on the size of your facility and the project budget you might consider adding a SDI router.

Does your control room have a router?
