Thanks for getting back to me guys.

Dave,OpenGL was on but turning it off didn’t fix the problem.

    Kevin, multiprocessing was already off.

Oddly, it seems to be a corrupt comp. I started a new comp and then pasted the layers one by one into it to try to isolate a bad layer.

As it turned out, I pasted all the layers from the old comp to the new
and it works fine now. The old comp still hangs but the new one works
normally. I didn’t know you could get a bad comp but there you go.

Thanks Lee, for the response. I considered using DV but I have too many hours of footage to capture and I am short on disk space until new drives arrive later in the week. In the future DV will probably be my offline res as well. I suspect you are right about sticking with the stock settings but will try experimenting again after this project is finished.
I will also send an email directly to Aja tech support asking about it. They have been very good about responding to other questions I have had since I bought the IO.

Also, thanks for the link to the tutorial. It looks very good and this will be the first time I try high rezing on FCP rather than Avid.

    Again thanks!

    Thanks Dino,
Since Avid users have been using 16 bit 48k for years without a problem on 20 bit Digibeta, I am going to assume 24 bit will be ok as long as the sample rate is 48K.

One of the main reasons for buying the Mojo is the ability to do 1:1. It is the older Meridian codec meaning that it is 8 bit rather than 10 bit (which I think you can now do with Adrenalin). You get 1 stream only so you have to render everything. Mojo has no SDI but does have component analogue in and out. 1:1 on Mojo is the same codec as on Meridian Avids so you can interchange the media and projects with the full size systems. I just did a project where I was given media digitized on a Meridian, cut the piece on DVXPro with Mojo and the output component to Digibeta. No problems. Avid does not “officially” support firewire for media but alot of people are using this configuration and if you go the the G-Raid info page at G-Technologies or Medea, you can see the compatability grid for G-Raid lists it as good with an approved FW800 card.

I do not consider Mojo great for broadcast due to no SDI and poor/noisy audio connections (cheapo rca connectors).

That is why I am trying out FCP and the IO, to get all the connectivity.
