I am having real trouble with preview and output renders in CS3 where
it “thinks” for almost 5 min. before it starts a ram preview or final render out. It’s not that complicated a piece but uses Keylight 1.2v5
    on several layers.

No problem scrubbing the timeline, it’s only when you preview or render.

I have gotten several warning messages basically it can’t initiate Keylight but it doesn’t do that every time I try to
preview or render. The footage being keyed it coming from an Avid.
    It’s Standard Def 1:1 10 bit.

It was working fine yesterday but today is a different story. Have already tried restarting.

    Machine specs:
    Octo Mac
    10 gig ram

there is an update (actually 2 since 1.2.5), you can find it here:

it may fix the problem… i’ve been using v1.2.8 since getting cs3 and i haven’t seen what you’ve described.

you could also try disabling ae’s multiprocessing (‘render multiple frame simultaneously’). keylight is natively multithreaded, though i have not tested it’s performance vs. ae’s.

Thanks for getting back to me guys.

Dave,OpenGL was on but turning it off didn’t fix the problem.

    Kevin, multiprocessing was already off.

Oddly, it seems to be a corrupt comp. I started a new comp and then pasted the layers one by one into it to try to isolate a bad layer.

As it turned out, I pasted all the layers from the old comp to the new
and it works fine now. The old comp still hangs but the new one works
normally. I didn’t know you could get a bad comp but there you go.
