Thanks Rob. Appreciate the advise. I can go with all that. Looking forward now to the shoot. Also I think the main shooting will be in the forest so I can get away not using an ND filter, if I keep away from the sky shots. Face of a waterfall is the main shot.

    Thanks Rob,

I think I’ll use the D7000 over the Z7 on this occasion as I’m feeling confident about using it and not stuffing it up. The shoot is a simple one, mostly landscapes shot from a tripod. Not much movement needed. It’s for AV ‘wallpaper’ as a backdrop to a live dance show.

Yes, I will use manual settings including focus as I discovered the limits of automatic when filming my kids.

I still have to learn about reading histograms correctly and may purchase a fixed lens instead of using the standard 18 to 200mm zoom. Any suggestions on 50mm or a 30mm lense? Hmmm, I like my landscapes wide. Used to use 28mm all the time on my old SLR.

Does ISO work like in the old SLR cameras? I used to use no more than 100 to keep the grain level down. If I keep it low will the picture be smoother? As well as the shutter slower obviously.

    Thanks for your advise.

Thanks Rainer for the advise. So as my edit is complete I would like to know what my workflow would look like changing the footage to one frame rate? As I think understand it:

1/ Use FCP media manager to copy all the used media into another folder to make a duplicate project.

2/ Put the GoPro media files through Compressor or Natress to match the Sony frame rate or 29.7. Or do I put ALL the media through for 25fps?

3/ relink these new clips to the timeline

4/ export movie for Studio Pro

    Yes? No?

As I haven’t used media manager before and just had a quick try late last night, can I just copy what footage is used in the timeline rather than the entire original clip that it comes from?

Please let me know if I’m on the right track.

    Thanks heaps (lots)
    In appreciation.
    Gary

    Hi Zack,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, PAL DVD is required as you can’t trust everyone here to have a machine that plays NTSC as well. Unfortunately I don’t have AE at the moment.

Yes, thanks Steve. I now realise this and will not be steaming on into the edit again before I convert. Wondering why these xtreme sports cameras don’t have PAL friendly frame rates?

Thanks for the pointers to Nattress.

    Hi Chris,

Yes, the FCP ‘Log and Capture’ controls the camera.

The icon on the camera says the tape is DVCam which is what I recorded.

Ahhh, sorry Scott. For some reason a filter had been turned on, suppressing the sound. No idea though how it turned on itself. Perhaps I was sleepwalking.

    cheers,
    Gary

This was so obvious that I forgot to put it in the original query. No, dB levels are the same.
