  • Excellent point Todd. Check out this update I got in my inbox today from my Adobe rep:

Adobe® Premiere Pro® CS5 now offers GPU acceleration on laptops

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, version 5.0.3 is an update available worldwide on December 7, 2010. This update to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 adds support for two new NVIDIA cards: the Quadro 4000 (Mac) and the Quadro 5000M (Windows). The addition of these new cards extends the power of the Mercury Playback Engine’s GPU acceleration to users working on laptops as well as workstations.

The 5.0.3 update also includes performance enhancements to further improve the experience of switching between Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and other applications, as well as other user interface, stability, and performance enhancements that make the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 editing workflow even more efficient and robust. For a full list of enhancements, check out Adobe Premiere Pro team’s blog post that highlights the 5.0.3 update: https://bit.ly/hfwZHx

You will still get the great Mercury playback from your CUDA based GPU with the standard MXO2 Mini.

The MAX hardware will give you faster then real-time H.264 encoding. I don’t think you’ll see much additional real-time performance.

Matrox has excellent integration with Adobe CS5. By far the best of the 3 main hardware I/O vendors (Black Magic/ AJA/ Matrox)

The MXO2 family of products deliver rock solid I/O with CS5. If you opt for the MAX option you get additional real-time performance with Premiere Pro CS5 running Win7.

Check out our MXO2 FAQ for more info. We have added a detialed section on CS5.

What great thread. MAX is the secret ingredient that gives the Matrox MXO2 family of products a leg up on other excellent I/O devices such as the Kona. As was mentioned here, if you have a Kona card, keep on using it! You can add the CompressHD card to your Mac Pro and get all of the benefits of the MAX technology.

While the MAX technology is not an accelerator, the time savings you get when you use it certainly accelerates your workflow! When the MAX technology was first announced many pros where skeptical. Sure it would be fast, but would it deliver the quality pros demand? The answer to that is “YES”. As the posts on this thread already demonstrate. We’ve sold MAX technology into all levels of editing suites, from independent producers and event guys up to post facilities and broadcast trucks. The MXO2 Family and Matrox MAX technology have become a crucial part of so many NLE workflows.

For those interested in more information, we have an MXO2 Family FAQ on our webiste that has just been updated to include Adobe CS5 and Avid MC5 worlkflows. https://tinyurl.com/y9ngjz6

Great thread and excellent observations. We started getting links to DSLR videos from our customers late last year, bragging about what they could do with a 5D or 7D. I was blown away from the first one, and they just kept coming and getting better.

Back in late January we reached out to Canon and suggested they help us with a DSLR workflow guide. They came through and the guide has been a big hit on our website. I’ve just updated it for the latest NAB announcements.

I don’t think you’ll get any faster burn speeds with firewire vs USB2.

We offer the Pioneer BDR-205 as an internal or external solution.

If you are going to install it internally you will need a cheap Sata adapter. We’ve also heard that the drawer catches in the Mac pro case.

Our best selling bundle for Mac users is with our USB/eSata case for $299. We include a 10 pack of BD-Rs.

We also offer it bundles with the FCS3 upgrade. For more info on our Pioneer BDR205 Blu-ray bundles for Mac follow this link https://www.videoguys.com/VideoguysSpecials/Specials.aspx?sb=24

The CompressHD card would save you hours and hours. The quality is great and your looking at faster then real-time encoding to H.264. So a 20 minute video would encode to H.264 in under 20 minutes!

We’re also working with Matrox and Telestream on CompressHD / Episode bundles.

The Pioneer BDR-203 works great with Vegas 9 and DVD a]Arch. We made sure of that by sending a few over to them for the team to test and evaluate.

June 19, 2009 at 9:01 pm in reply to: Kona LHi and Matrox Compress HD?

The Matrox CompressHD works with your exisitng Kona (or Black Magic) I/O hardware.

I’ve been told by Matrox that because the CompressHD card does all the lifting, you can actually use it while you are editing or doing other stuff with your Mac. Now that’s pretty darn cool.

For H.264 Blu-ray encoding you’ll go from 2 or 3 or 4 times realtime to faster then realtime. A 1 hour ProRes timeline will take about 50 minutes to encode.

For Blu-ray authoring you’re still limited in your choices. Either Encore or Toast. We’ve put together some nice bundles with CompressHD, Pioneer BDR-203, external housing, Toast 10 plus Verbatim media.
