Blue Ray burners
Posted by Kip Cole on January 20, 2010 at 5:42 pmAnybody out there got any suggestions for an internal Blue Ray burner (brand, model # etc.) for a FCP system? We’re running FCP 6, but will probably be upgrading to 7 soon. Also, what program would be needed to author to Blue Ray?
Thanks,
Kip Cole

January 20, 2010 at 7:02 pmI have the external drive from Videoguys. It uses the Pioneer BD-203 drive. The Pioneer unit is great and I understand that there is a newer and faster model available now. The enclosure is USB2, so I’m wondering if I could get faster burns with a Firewire 800 enclosure. Currently, it burns at somewhere between 1x and 2x, although the drive is capable of 4x. I’m assuming that with an internal SATA connection, you could realize the full speed potential of the drive.

January 20, 2010 at 7:11 pmI have a Panasonic SW-5583 (It is what FastMac rebrands as there own) and a Pioneer BDR-205BK– both are internal in two separate 8-core Mac Pros. Both work great.
Save yourself some money and get them from Other World Computer (macsales.com).

January 20, 2010 at 9:28 pmWe offer the Pioneer BDR-205 as an internal or external solution.
If you are going to install it internally you will need a cheap Sata adapter. We’ve also heard that the drawer catches in the Mac pro case.
Our best selling bundle for Mac users is with our USB/eSata case for $299. We include a 10 pack of BD-Rs.
We also offer it bundles with the FCS3 upgrade. For more info on our Pioneer BDR205 Blu-ray bundles for Mac follow this link https://www.videoguys.com/VideoguysSpecials/Specials.aspx?sb=24

Will you get faster burns with a Firewire enclosure?

January 21, 2010 at 9:20 pmI don’t think you’ll get any faster burn speeds with firewire vs USB2.
