Hi Trai, I know that would be the answer but before we do anything like that I need to be pretty certain it is the replicators fault otherwise it is going to be a very expensive mistake.

To check the DLTs, burn a DVD-R from the data on the DLTs, and check for the problems you are experiencing.”

I did not get check discs from the replicator.

the problem I have is that the replicators say that if they send me the DLTs it will invalidate any claim I have against their company because I could ‘doctor the tapes’ they did say that if I give them the address of an independant company that can test the DLTs they will do that but obviously I will have to pay for that if it does turn out to be an authoring problem which is why I am seeking advice on this forum.

Out of curiosity, the button that does not work — would that button take you to an area of the DVD that would be on the 2nd layer (when the project is burned to DL Disc)?

Also, at the 1:24:00 mark, would that be around/near a layer break (again, if it were burned to DVD9)?

I am waiting to find out if they used the DLT update.

I think the 1:24:00 mark is near the break as the total run time of the DVD is 2:55:00
The DLT was verified after it was recorded by the Authorer

I have a similar problem to the above, I had someone author a dvd for me, the dvd was dvd9 so he exported it to (2) DLT and then burnt me a couple of copies of the film on dvd9r, the DLT’s were then sent to the replicator and the burnt discs sent to me, the burnt discs worked fine but when I took delivery of the manufactured discs they did not work properly, firstly one of the buttons on the main menu did not work, secondly at 1 hour 24 minutes into the film it goes pixilated and when it clears the film is about 2 minutes foward from where it should be (the counter on the player does not skip).
I have been in discusion with the manufacturers and they were saying it was an authoring problem but I argued because the burnt discs work fine! They are currently running more tests but I feel they won’t want to admit to it being their fault, I came across this thread and tried copying the files from one of the manufactured discs to the HD on computer but get an error message error copying file….. file system error (-2147351799)maybe this is some sort of protection on the discs? the authorer says he didnt put any encryption on the discs!

yes using dv, tried easy setup but cant see anything about external video settings. All i have tried is print to tape.

thanks Enzo, I did try out putting to tape before I posted my first message on this board, but that didnt work either, when i started the output everything looked like it was working fine the deck started recording, the movie played in fcp but nothing was put onto the tape.

thanks for the info, since I posted I have managed to export the entire scene using the divx codec, our only problem is that we used divx6 which has the file extention .divx although it is really an avi file. We use windows media encoder to encode to wmv as this is the prog we have found that gives us most control over our output. the problem with wm encoder is that it will not import quicktime files or even the .divx, we alter the file extention from .divx to .avi and although it was very slow we managed to convert to wmv, obviously if we somehow got a proper avi file from fcp it would have beeen a lot quicker.
Up until now we have been doing all of our editing on a pc using adobe premiere pro, which is a good prog and exports in avi which was ideal, I do like fcp and especially the mulicam view, if only we had some way of getting an avi file out of the prog.

nothing there, i did check that anyway. something I have just noticed is that everytime I try exporting to avi the file size is 4.2gb, it is almost like it stops when it is the correct size to fit on a dvd. I cant seem to find any settings that limit the file size in that way though.
