[Amir Qureshi] “Kona driver installed in my system is 8.1.2”
Are you sure the firmware on the card is up to date- it must be updated manually on this card.

[gary adcock] “Kona Cards really only write to Post production quality codecs like those used for editing, not those used for web streaming such as flash or h.264. “
I thought this statement was pretty self explainatory.
The kona cards are not designed to create FLV files for flash delivery, like delivering of H.264 you need to capture in one format then process the file so that it can be delivered as a different codec.
There are dedicated platforms to do this, however your kona card is NOT designed for capturing for anything other than post production.

Seth,
“FCP still will not capture, AJA VTR xchange won’t even show a preview.”
your setup is not designed for creating a directly steamable content. Kona Cards really only write to Post production quality codecs like those used for editing, not those used for web streaming such as flash or h.264.
You need to have a dedicated tool to handle those types of delivery.

Ok
More info, How are you recording the signal?
( and please tell us that you are not trying to capture the DVI output as HDMI.)What kind of signal are you recording?
How is the unit setup?
What is the front of the KiPro say in the status menu when the signal drops- the unit should flash colors at you to indicate an issue.Have you checked the cables? noise in the signal usually means bad cabling.

[Bret Hampton] ” For this purpose do you think it makes any sense to do 4444 over HQ?”
Why?
your HDCam Tape master is an 8bit 3:1:1 recording on the tape, and nothing you do will ever make that better once it has been captured to tape.
Save the 444 and HQ versions for something that is actually a 10Bit master recording. SQ and LT will more than suffice for your system and needs here.

[Jeremy Garchow] “And name it something useful. :)”
that would be achieved using “Custom Clip” under the naming conventions.

[Richard Boghosian] “Not the issue I’m having. In, fact my output files from FCP worked just fine on ver 2.1 before I did the upgrade to 2.5 And the KPMini won’t play back the audio of a camera file.
“There have always been minor issues with computer created and rendered files on both models for as long as I have worked with them most often due to improper config on the user side ( sorry richard). The settings change as have the specs at differing times, so I choose to record directly into the units for secondary playback, then I do not have any issues.
The unit was designed as a RECORDER, why waste the time rendering all of that crap out when you can hit play in your timeline and capture a pristine recording off HDSDI that will automaticly create a new clip for every file you play.

[Illya Laney] “What if the camera freezes in the middle of a take?”
Nope, I tested everyone of these options with multiple alexa cameras. I tried, pulling power ( both AC and multipule batteries) , even pulling the card out of the computer while recording did not suffer from more than 3-5 frames not being recorded, but not once did the clips or cards ever become corrupted. I was able to open each and every clip without issues.
I have tested this on over 20 different SxS cards in all 5 flavors of ProRes written by the camera on v2, v2.1 v3 and v3.1 software versions, the most that I ever loss on any one shot was 15 frames when I was shooting at 1080 60p, thinking that I lost 1/4 of a second of my recording put my mind to rest.“I’ve seen certain clips play back, but you can’t do a save as or export out of FCP or quicktime with the clip. “
That is an FCP/ QT issue that cannot modify the file when the .MOV file when it is written in All CAPS like Alexa does. It was a big issue with FCP and Compressor not being able to Media Manage becuase of it.

[Chad Tingle] “There are no settings to capture to DVCPROHD on the kona. You have to capture to uncompressed or apple pro-res. I have an LHI and I go through the same thing.”
Chad,
this is undeniably false, I have worked with Aja on this since the begining of the DVCProHD support came to FCP and I can assure all the readers out there that the Kona Cards do indeed support DVCProHD.
Additiionally the Kona tools have the ability to capture the Variable frame rate capabilites of the Tape based Varicams properly whether or not the user wants to capture as UC, ProRes or DVCProHD.
I have these 3 listed in the Library / Application support / Final Cut Studio just to handle the VFR flagged content in 720 or 1080.
AJA KONA 3- 720p 23.98 DVCPro HD VFR
AJA KONA 3- 720p 25 DVCPro HD VFR
AJA KONA 3- 1080p 23.98 DVCPro HD VFRgary adcock
