Close Motion, trash the prefs, restart Motion. That will almost certainly fix it.

Best way to trash the prefs is using Digital Rebellion’s excellent freeware Preference Manager.

Yup, I need to do this fairly frequently in Motion 4. What usually happens is that the “Show Full View Area” option gets greyed-out. Trashing prefs brings it back.

Hi Tim,

All you need to do is use the line you’ve drawn for the symbol to follow. Make it visible and apply a Write On behaviour to it, then adjust the duration of the behaviour to suit.

The audio sounds perfect on ingest. There’s no problem with the VTR that I’m aware of, I’ve tried it on a different FCP and it’s fine. It definitely seems to be something to do with the way QT is interpreting the audio.

Two ways that I know of. Either drop the clip into the dropzone and then ALT-drag until the frame you want is at the head, or edit the clip in FCP so that it starts and ends exactly where you want it to, export and reimport it, and drop that into the dropzone.

EDIT – I’ve just had a play in Motion 4 and you can also just add the original full-length clip to the dropzone and then trim the dropzone in the timeline or mini-timeline so that it starts and ends where you want it to.

In FCP7/Motion 4, you can make the video in a dropzone start on whatever frame you like by slipping it – just ALT-drag the the clip in the main timeline or the mini-timeline.

Thanks Mark. That won’t work because the clips are all subclips of a single long QuickTime, and so the Media pane only shows that single source file. Looks like exporting and reimporting is the only way round it.
