that i not rue ,do you understand that the biggest hollywood blockbusters movie are graded by company 3 on a davinci resolve ???
so assuming that resolve is for the smaller jobs , have no point in this discussion , but certainly prove what is happening : resolve “value” declassed

November 27, 2011 at 4:24 pm in reply to: With 8.1.1 BM has just thrown a very destructive blow to the entire C-grading businessi think that what kim is saying should be pretty explanatory to blackmagic to what people think now about resolve :
No money available =Buy Resolve super cheap
Money available = Buy Baselightwell off course this is incredibly wrong statement , because resolve can totally be considered at the same level of baselight if surrounded by the proper hardware : Resolve Panel , 4GPU etc…(the biggest blockbusters Movie on earth are graded on Resolve on Linux systems )
so seems that this all “” For free”” or “1K price” thing…now people are associating in their mind that davinci is not worth to spend money on … and if you have money “spend it on a baselight” …
off course i believe the opposite (i spent my 50K or so on a Resolve) , but i think that blackmagic should consider that people out there are already considering resolve as a “””if you have no money “” alternative …
my 2 cents

so at least people that will not be serious about trying to build a color correction service will give up , stop “messing” the market with their offer .again , i do believe that talent win and big clients want the big room (resolve panel etc..( i do have those) , but i am hearing a lot from clients that zoo many now offer “resolve work” for very tiny money … again , who is not serious about will not last , but for sure there is confusion in the marked of resolve colorist

+1 to change /fix the cache mechanism … i had issue many times : like it does not cash until i quit an restart resolve etc…
i think that the issue is the fact that is supposed to work in background , i would prefer to press a button when i want to cache a shot or the all timeline instead of a background caches
i feel is not reliable (but sometime it actually does work )

i think that when we use XML roundtrip option resolve should automatically export the XML …
ps:let me ask : if for some reason resolve slipped few frames here and there (so online not 100% in sync with the offline (sometimes happen ) will the XML exported from resolve reflect the Timeline of resolve ? or the original IN-OUT of the imported XML ?
thanks

November 17, 2011 at 1:23 pm in reply to: SInce Davinci now costs nothing, is it worth anything?well i disagree wit peter on this ,
i think the way how BMD is making resolve more powerful is remarkable , in few months re-engineered the software so much , very very impressive …
i am just saying that the super low price point and even free , is making the client perception thinking that is not anymore the best … and for sure the fact that sooooooo many people have it at this basically zero price price point is messing up the offer and rates etc…
but i am very impressed how BMD is keep developing the software …i just wish costed 10K and not 1K or free ….

November 17, 2011 at 4:13 am in reply to: SInce Davinci now costs nothing, is it worth anything?i agree that real client “meaning client that pay good money ” expect a nice pro system , even on the MAC a full system (let’s say the one that the big client eyes expect ) cost around 60-70K (panel, monitors , scopes , raids ,cubic , multiple red rockets , multiple graphic card , color management system etc…)
i agree that the free lic might make some confusion around , but i honestly think that the confusion also comes from the 1K price , if i have to be honest , for the industry of colorists , a cheap davinci lic should be 15K , so around would not be 100’s of people offering “cheap” (meaning the price) color correction work claiming DAVINCI ,
i am not scared at all about this , but is fare to say that 3 times already clients argued with me about the price of the color work , saying that other colorist offered way less (ridiculously less) saying that they work on davinci , again , is the colorist that make the difference , and yes Stefan sonnefeld will not loose a dime , but the perception of clients about the “”””prestige”””” of davinci is kind of decreasing ,
again reason is is because they hear the Word DAVINCI in too many “”lower level”” post house , and now BASELIGHT is taking advantage ….it might be not fare but that is what it is , i guess is pretty Human being attracted by tools that less people can Have …
off course market is changing , prices are changing , but a 10K for a lic at least make the difference between a person that invest in his job seriously and a person that doe load a software for free and offer himself in the market as a colors confusing a bit clients ,
again , at the end , the talent win , but the marked is a bit confused by Resolve at 1K ….or even Free …
just my 2 cents
