August 6, 2015 at 8:37 pm in reply to: Best way to archive video for future hi res formats.Hi Shane.
I was walking around and touched your post. I’m back tô the industry after 14 months away. It is só interesting to realize that a lot can change in a so short time … lol
Well, I’m working with FCPX ( I love it) and I’m in a job that I will have tô digitalize 53 old tapes (VHS and VHS-C) and mix their material with some graphics and then burn DVDs and also prepare the final files tô be archived in an external HD. Since I am capturing the tapes with an old VCR via a kind of a “bridge”, the Canopus Device ADVC 300 with FCPX optimizing the files as PRORES. It makes easy for editing and when I export it, I do it as it is (PRORES / FULLRES) to compress the file with Apple Compressor as MPEG2 and AC3 to make the DVDs.
Now, I was thinking in save and archive the final projects as PRORES, as it come from FCPX, or make a H264 out of them to save in the external HD.
What do you think about it ?Thanks in advance.
Fredy.

Thanks everybody for fast answering.
The project I’m working in is digitalise and editing many VHS and VHS-C tapes and edit them with some HD material plus some effects, Texts and subtitles.
Since I will not need to join more than 4 tapes at time I had that question. I do have a OWC RAID Box that I used to use as RAID 5 but it is not a Thunderbolt device. I use it with a Sonnet adapter connecting the Thunderbolt OUT/Cable in my iMac to eSata IN of the RAID BOX. The question was because the Box is full of material that I would have to backup if I will use it.Thanks again.

October 9, 2014 at 8:20 pm in reply to: Finding repeated / duplicate clips on Timeline ?hi Lawrence.
In fact it list them but does not say if there is duplicate clips or frames. I believe is could have a way of doing it specially for those, like me, who records long events and need to do some kind of chronological editing …. lol.
Anyway, thanks for having answered me.

Thanks guys for your messages, but I had already did everything you wrote here. Doing more reaches on internet and others FCP discussion groups I’ve found people having the same problem and some of them have been blaming the version 10.0.8 of FCPX. They are saying that the reason might be a bug of that version and this is the version I am working with. Have you heard anything about that ?

Did you mean the iPhone App ? Can you do the update via iPhone ? How do I do it ?Probably you are right. I can have a bad camera. I’ve sent an email to them on their website to see and analyze what is going on …. .

April 22, 2013 at 12:58 am in reply to: I’m not understanding the behavior of some GoPro clips in FCPXYou are right ! But I wish it was as easy as it (should be). In the high technology age that we live I just can not understand a company that has just released a new product, like the GoPro Hero 3, needing an update, downloading files to be inserted in the SD Cards to work properly.
Moreover, the usb cable that came along is a cheap one and it doesn’t fit tight on camera. And I believe it was supposed to be the way to do that update I’ve mentioned before but as I connect the cable on camera and on my iMac, the camera is not recognized.
So I can not insert in the card the update files since I can’t make the camera recognizable. But I found out a way to take files from camera. Thanks god my iMac has a card hole. That way I can insert the Sandisk micro sd card into a card adapter and that one in my iMac. Despite the fact that it is formatted as FAT32 (I did as you advised- on camera), my Mac recognized and I could get the files but as the card is not with the updated files downloaded from GoPro website, I do not know if the files are on the best quality it could be.Thanks Mike.

I had realized that when I plyback the clips. Everything was there if I take all clips and put them in timeline.
I’m happy that you have mentioned “the format process”. That is another hard time for me. My iMac doesn’t read the card when I format it with the GoPro. A friend of my came here to help me last week and he format the card on my Mac as ExFat, something that “could be red” by Macs and PCs. After I had downloaded the clips I wanted to erase the clips from the card to use it again and could not find a way to do it. Selecting the folder with clips or even the clips itself, they were grayed. Not even with iDisk in Utilities I could do it. Do you have an idea on how to do it ?Thanks in advance for your advices.
