    Hi Andy!

Check out the HDLink from Blackmagic design, https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/hdlink/ , it will do what you’re looking for…

The SDI outputs are uncompressed “real time” outputs. This enables you to hook up a HDCAM, DVCPROHD, DVCPRO50, DigiBeta etc deck to your XLH1 and capture directly to that deck, OR to a computer equipped with an HD-SDI or SDI capture card (Blackmagic, Kona etc).
The output is 4:2:2 uncompressed, which translates to approx 1.4 gbps for HD and 270 mbps for SD. Now remember that DVCPROHD uses 100 mbps and DV 25 mbps and you see the difference in bitrates!

If you shoot to tape that will be either DV or HDV. That stream you can transfer over FireWire.

    Hope this answers your questions!

January 10, 2006 at 2:05 pm in reply to: SATA Drives Speed vs. Firewire Drive Speed

I guess it depends on what kind of editing you are doing.
If you are doing uncompressed I would recommend SATA.
I have three WD Raptors striped as RAID0. That gives me a write speed of more than 150 MB/sec…

    Erik,

this is due to the way AE multithreads. If you have a dual proc machine, check this thread from last week out: https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=2&postid=864647&pview=t#head

  • Without knowing the structure or nature of your comps (fx, 3d/2d, motion blur etc) I can only give a general advice – Collapse Transformations…

Try putting your effects in the last comp in order to avoid rendering fx on the whole image. I don’t know if this makes sense in your workflow, but I think it’s worth mentioning. If it applies to your work you could see significant increases in speed and responsiveness…

  • One thing to remember, uncheck “Use storage overflow” and check “Skip existing files” in Render Settings to make this work. This whole multiple instances hack is a hidden gem imo. After Effects isn’t multithreaded well enough to take full advantage of a dual or quad proc setup during rendering. With this you will see your render times on multiproc systems going down quite a lot…

    Fred
