After Effects 6.5 performace question
I have a question, well, sort of a question. I asked my self “how well does After Effects actually use dual cpu’s when it has them?” Well, I did some testing and found some very strange results.
TESTMACHINE
– Dual 2.5 G5
– 3GB RAM
– ATi X800XT– MacOSX 10.4.3
– After Effects 6.5First, I used After Effcts 6.5 to render out a comp we’ve done on a commercial. It’s a quite simple composition that uses a few 3D-layers, a few filmfiles and some graphics, text and filter.
Rendertime was 520 seconds on our new G5. Great compared to the 1430s it took on our old G4

You’re not crazy. This is normal. I don’t think it’s right, but what the hey — it’s normal. 🙂

this is due to the way AE multithreads. If you have a dual proc machine, check this thread from last week out: https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=2&postid=864647&pview=t#head
