May 1, 2017 at 10:31 pm in reply to: Issues Creating and Attaching Proxies w/Audio

I had similar experiences when this feature was released and finally gave up. The main problem was that I get footage from a lot of different shooters and although you can insist on shooting to a specific spec you don’t always get it. So sometimes the audio is in stereo 2 tracks, sometimes mono 8 tracks (and only one track actually being used) etc. I spent a day trying to get the right proxy settings made and finally decided it wasn’t worth it. PP would make the proxies and everything would be great until you opened up the project the next day and none of the proxies would connect becuase the “audio did not match the source file.” Even though my proxy settings were exactly the same as the source. Why Premiere Pro doesn’t just come with a generic proxy setting that automatically uses exactly the same audio that is on the source I do not know. I too really wish I could get a solution to this problem and thus make what could be a very usefull feature actually useable.

  • Bootcamp does not work with PowerPCs. Here’s a link that explains.

You can use VirtualPC but I can tell you from experience that it is slow.

What are the settings that you use in compressor? I thought I had tried all flavors, and always end up transcoding again in Encore.

Yes, I understand that SL or Lion is not negotiable. But are you saying you can run FCPX on an older macbook pro that maybe doesn’t meet the minimum requirement for video card? Is it worth trying? Or has it already been established as one those things to CAN do…but you really wouldn’t want to because it’s just too sluggish and buggy?

Nothing like replying to your own post. 😉 Vendor is now claiming that it’s a typo on the bid after I declared “shenanigans.” No need for reply.

If you play the clip in a quicktime player and monitor with your computer speakers, does it still have the delay? What I’m getting at is depending on how you monitor the audio out of FCP, you may be experiencing a delay that doesn’t really exist. I used to send the output via firewire through my dv deck and used the EE output of the deck to send to my monitors/speakers. If I was watching the canvas, audio was not in sync.

You started at a frame rate of 29.97
You are now insisting that the HD version be 24P…why?

I think you should try using a 1080i (29.97) timeline for your HD version. This may solve some of your timing/wrong frame issues.

Is the delay on the actual ingested clip. Or is this delay happening when you play back on a timeline?

We do it twice a year. Check your options when renting. You can probably spec a Mac Pro that is exactly or close enough that the switch is pretty easy. Most of the mac pros available for rental are a couple years old. We even bring our Kona 3 card and use it to capture live video during a show. Keep an eye on the video card that comes with the rental to make sure that it will function with an older OS. The adobe software can be a bit tricky, so have time planned to work out the kinks before your actual edit. Bring all key codes and dongles(yuck) for software and all your install disks just in case. If you have pre-edited projects that you plan on finishing on site, make sure you media manage them properly onto an external drive for the trip.

Neat video makes a great plug-in (your going to have to pay for it). I’ve had some really remarkable results with it.
