  • Hi Mark I tried this but with no success, are you by chance on MAC OS 10.7 or 10.8 I am still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

  • Thanks Andy,

I think I will need to go to the hairdresser tomorrow, I hardly have any hair left I have been pulling it out for the past 2 Hrs.

I will post back to Apple and can try out your workaround.

    Best Regards

  • Dear ALL, thank you for your very valued assistance here in the forum, your advice has really helped me to begin to get my head around the the power and versatility of using Keyword collections.

I think the bit that initially got me confused was thinking that for each Keyword collection generated there would be a “separate” set of 9 shortcut Keys. You have now all given me some different ideas to play around with.

    Thanks & Regards

  • Kevin, Jason, thanks for your assistance this makes more sense now and the Link to the Steve Douglas and Ken Stone article certainly consolidates the understanding. I have built a test Event and believe I am now getting somewhere (I think, I hope) .

Thanks both, this is much appreciated.

  • Hi Guys, did you know Apple have made stealth changes to the Trial ver 10.0.1 so if you are having problems with Trial version pre 07-Oct-2011 crashing when adding certain effects to a clip then trash your copy and download the Trials again. If you compare the file sizes you will notice a slight difference in number of bytes.

This is an unforgivable sneaky thing from the Apple team.

  • Hi Gregor, thanks for your assistance.

My comment re FX was related to your previous post where you said

“Do you have FX Factory Trial PlugIns installed? I had the same problem until I uninstalled these and afterwards no problems anymore…. ”

I haven’t intentionally installed these and just wondered if they got installed during the FCPX installation.

It is interesting that you have the paid up version and also Motion 5 installed I am somehow thinking they Both FCPX and Motion need to coexist concurrently which might explain why your system isn’t suffering the crashes I am seeing.

Good, I might risk the costs and purchase Motion first then see if that cures the problem then if OK I will go ahead and purchase FCPX paid ver.

  • Hi for info …

    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro5,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
    Memory: 8 GB
    Processor Interconnect Speed: 5.86 GT/s
    Boot ROM Version: MP51.007F.B03

    Brand new clean HDD installed

Clean OS 10.6.8 with all software updates from Apple

    No other Apps installed

    Clean install of FCPX Trial.

    Clips

    H264, Linear PCM 1920 x 1080i, 25 Fps,

    DVC PAL, Linear PCM, 720 x 576, 25Fps

Bill, Gregor, are you using Full paid version and do you both have Motion 5 Installed. As Chris has mentioned this system is only crashing when an Effect is added to a timeline clip. Also there are some Effects that work just fine and do not cause the system to crash. I keep thinking, as it seems related to Effects could it be that certain Effects are looking for a service from Motion when they are invoked ???

Gregor are FX Plugins installed normally with FCPX ?

I have looked around lots of places on the Webb including the Apple forum and this appears to be a VERY VERY big problem throughout.

I have sent at least 20+ Crash reports to Apple myself but as normal they just disappear into the
    black hole.

My gripe is this, if so many people are experiencing this problem then it should be courteous for Apple to at least acknowledge and put out a statement. This would stop all the bad press from the users and prevent the need for us all to keep seeking unnecessary solutions.
