    Hi John,

But you’re missing my point. My point is that I want to simply edit VOB files and then render them. I came to this board looking for advice.

Sure, maybe Sony isn’t the way to go to edit VOB files…that’s what it seems. But it is a commercial package that I would like to own for other, edits such as editing my MPG files that come off my Flip video camera…or import raw footage off my Sony miniDV camcorder.

I totally agree with you that Sony likely isn’t the way to load up a dvd and import it.

But back to my original question, then…what software (free would be nice) will allow me to simply edit VOB files and render my final piece into something else? Maybe this question’s answer needs to be broken down…as a video editing newbie, I’m looking for a simple answer like:

“Fred, it’s very hard to edit VOBs directly. Download _______ which will easily convert VOBs to _____ format…this program is designed for newbies and is extremely easy to use. Lastly, once _____ converts them to _____, use ______ which is a simple editing tool to make those 30 second clips you talk about”

    🙂

Can anyone help me on this?

    Thanks again in advance.

Hi. Well, I tried the dvd rip and it creates 29 MPG which play just fine in Windows Media Player…

I’ve spent about 45 minutes fiddling with Vegas and every bleeping time I CANNOT get it to play the human vocal tracks. The only one the plays the vocal is MPG 0…1-29 do not have it.

I’ve tried setting the properties of the project to 5.1 surround and no effect. Here is a screenshot of my problem…any ideas?

This seems waaaaaay too much of a hassle with Vegas…I’m very surprised Vegas is far more difficult to use than Acid…and I’ve been using Acid since 1.0.

Hi…thanks for the fast reply. A few questions since I’m not at the Win7 machine right now:

1)Point Vegas directly to my dvd drive…or point it to the directory of VOB/IFO/BUP etc files?

2)If I am to point it to the dvd drive, are you stating that Vegas will import the movie even though it’s copyrighted/protected? Does Vegas actually import/rip it at 1x or something faster like 8x that my drive can easily handle? I’d sure hate to have to wait 1.5 hours for it to import a dvd just so I can trim/create a 30second clip. 🙂

    Thanks again in advance!
