Hi Jenn
I would recommend the Tentaclesync System mentioned above.
It is foolproof and the software syncs up all in seconds with no issues as every thing is linked/locked together with time code.
Before I got the Tentacle Time code System, I used Pluraleyes and found it 85% reliable, but with Time code you get 100% fuss free reliability.
Well worth the money IMHO.

If the choice is between an AF100 and a 5D, it’s a no brainer !
The AF100 will give you far greater flexibility for video work. Then hire or buy a panny 4/3 stills body for when you need to do a stills shoot. You can use the same glass that you are going to buy for the AF100 on the 4/3 body.
Job done !!
Good luck with it. You are going to love the AF100 !!!

Hi Alex,
Afraid I can’t help you with your lens descision, as mathamatics was always a poor subject with me at school.
However, might I suggest, that when you have decided which lens gives you the most pleasing result, that you have a good, strong, cup of tea.
I always find that a good strong cup of tea, helps to round a stressfull day of artistic descisions off in a very pleasing way !
Good luck with your shoot and best reagards for now from England,Fred

Hi Will,
I think that you would be best served by doing a little more research on the net. There is a wealth of instructional information out there on the subject of sound and the DSLR.
If you want to ‘cut to the chase’, then my recommendation would be to shoot with a ‘dual system’. Something like a Zoom H4N field recorder, with or without a decent ‘shotgun’ microphone, like the Rode NTG2.
This is some of the kit that I use, and I am very happy with the quality of the results.
Hope this will help you with your further researching.
Best of luck,

Hi Josh,
I think you have made the right descision, and I am a happy 7d owner!
I went for the 7d over the 60d in the beleif that the construction of the shutter mechanism is slightly more rugged. That is somthing I have to consider, with the number of shutter acctuations required for Stop Motion work.
I have to amortise the cost of the 7d body over the production of content; a five minute short for instance is upward of 6000 shutter acctuations ! The series of 45 second cinema commercials I am currently working on will be another 12000 or so. It adds up over not very much time !
Best of luck with the 60d

August 15, 2011 at 7:44 pm in reply to: Best codec to edit Cannon DSLR footage in CS 5.5?Hey Rian,
I would say best you edit native in Premier, THEN take your ‘cut’ into After Effects and there you can ‘beef it up’ / colour correct and do whatever else you have to do, THEN export as you choose.
Best regards,
Fred (2D & 3D Animation and Stop Motion)

Daniel,
The difference in price that you quote in your post regarding the
5D Mk2 and the 7D is incorrect.
The UK ‘street’ price for a 5D2 is currently around £1750 and the 7D is around £1250. A difference of around £500 NOT the £1000+ that you suggest. As to ‘which is best’ (cost aside), I think that this would be governed by your required use of the camera.
If it is to be used mostly for video work, then I think it would depend on the final output format that you need.
Do you require video files for the production of Cinema release film prints or just output for HDTV and the Web. If it is the later then I would suggest that you go for the 7D and spend any money left over on GOOD glass.Regards,
