did you figure this out?
Is there anyway to reset the trial ? -
Thank you both for your comments.
I am going to play with both methods to see which I should choose. I basically want to have easy control over my whites like in FCP. I am sure both will do fine with that. There might be a learning curve, like you said, but that is fine with me. Just wanted to see what everyone else is using in AE if they had to.
Thanks again for your comments, very appreciated.

no problem man.
I know how you felt, trust me.
Was driving me crazy.
I think its something to do with CS3 and the new quicktime maybe.Anyways, good luck!

I HAD THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM !
I am doing some rotoscoping on a Feature Film that I cut. I masked out a fire hydrant, then when I dump out of AE into FCP the footage is 4 shades darker just like yours. I looked for hours for a solution until I just now stumbled upon your post. I read the project settings method and tried it, but it didn’t work. I STUMBLED UPON THE SOLUTION ! ! This is what you do.
File > Project Settings >
then CHECK BLEND COLORS USING 1.0 GAMMA & MATCH LEGACY AFTER EFFECTS QUICKTIME GAMMA ADJUSTMENTS ! !
I am thinking maybe Quicktime 7.4.1 is the culprit on this one. It has never done this to me in the past.
After doing this, I rendered back out using *NONE* in format. Imported into FCP, WAM! Perfect matching colors ! ! This was a real pain in my butt and I couldn’t figure it out until I read your post. Even though you didn’t find the answer, you helped me discover it ! Thank you very very much. Please email me if you get this post!
I hope it works for you as it did for me.
Take care.

Drum Roll Please….
(dudududududududu tssshhh!)
I have fixed it.
WARNING TO ALL:Do not double nest your sequences in FCP.
After a good month of trying to pinpoint my problem I have finally figured it out.
I simply made a new project and moved over ALL assets from my browser EXCEPT the MASTER SEQUENCE which had my 9 reel sequences nested inside of it. The problem that was occurring I think is when I switched programs ie: FCP to Finder or FCP to iTunes then come back to FCP it would hang and then crash. In turn losing work sometimes. What was making it crash was that main sequence and it would try to refresh or re-prepare those nested sequences for it to display and it was just simply too much for FCP to handle.Thank you for having this forum, or I would of probably just given up and lived with the problem like I have been for the past month.
Also, thank you for reading my post and trying to help even though you didn’t have any magic bullets.
Take care,
Fred

Even though you didn’t know the answer, it may be because of you that I found the solution.
After making my last post I have been trying to ‘pinpoint’ the culprit.
It seems to be one of my sequences.
I think its because it has a double nest inside of it.
I am working on a feature and it has over 115 scenes.
The way I am editing with my sequences is ) Scenes > Reels > Master
I don’t think FCP likes the master sequence that has the nests in it.
I am moving everything BUT that sequence to a new project to see if it works.
I will post more later. -
no, it only happens with 2 specific projects.
I have tried everything from deleting all render files, new capture scratches, migrating all data onto one drive, reinstalling studio, reinstall and formatting my hard drive, the list continues. I have tried to make a new project and reimport my assets but the problem will occur in the new project as well. Which leads me to believe its something wrong with one of my source files. The problem to that is I have over a terabyte worth of raw. Any suggestions?
