Have you made sure that the D-sub connecter for the audio cables is correctly seated and connected to the aja?
When you go to sequence>settings>audio outputs, how many outputs are selected?
If this doesn’t help then I suggest you call Promax and get someone to come and take a look at your set up. -
Oh BTW, you dont also have your DVCam deck connnected to a firewire port on the computer as well do you?

Okay so when you play a clip in the timeline you see the audio meters moving and your audio playback is set to Pro Io correct? Is this a clip you digitized from the deck via the AJA? What sort of mixer are you plugged into and are you going straight to the mixer with the XLR cables from the AJA? Is there by any chance a mic/line switch on each channel of the mixer? When you tested the deck straight to the mixer did you use the same channels as the AJA is plugged into with XLR cables?

>When I switch Final Cut’s playback settings to default the audio plays back through my case, but I can’t get anything through my AJA box.
What do you have as playback settings in your audio/video settings pop up menu? Have you set audio to Pro Io?

Oh BTW, I dont think a simple boom box will be sufficient for music playback. If there is a drummer in the band you will need a decent sized PA system so the musicians can hear the palyback. It is very difficult to fake playing drums without actually hitting them. Also record the playback audio on the camera mic to use later in post as a rough guide track.

Here’s a simple way to help with playback and sync. Load the song into FCP or Protools or any program where you can do a little editing. Then add a 4 count of beeps at the head, in time with the song. You can make these beeps with a 1khz tone cut to a couple of frames each. These can be used as a count in for the band members to know when the song is starting and then they can also be used later in post to sync each take and camera angle. Once you’ve done this you can then just burn a new CD with the beeps at the start and use that on the set of your shoot.

Just to eliminate one more possiblity, have you checked the actual tapes and deck by playing them out straight to an amp and speakers, or listening with headphones plugged into the tapedeck?

Have you successfully captured any audio & video through the canopus prior to this? Have you tried shutting down everything and then re-booting with it all connected? Sometimes this helps.

You may find when capturing you have to use the “NTSC firewire basic” setting for device control.
