I use FCP 10.5.4 and Catalina. First in FCP i create a Project and Library. I then bring my media in. Mini Tapes or VHS tapes. Then I put them on the timeline and transfer them to DVD. I do it this way because I need to edit and soundtrack the footage.

Thank You for the reply. My Mac is a bit behind regards new set up. Software…Catalina 10.15.7 FCP..10.5.4. If I upgrade I will not be able to transfer V.H.S tapes and mini tapes. I will try the sound software in FCP. Was asking for short cut, but it is better to learn.

I have been using Elgato for transfer of VHS and mini tapes. it comes out as a Quicktime file and then I import into FCP.

Over the years FCP has altered in leaps and bounds. This software seems to focus on more complex set up for the professional market. Like a car, one could work under the bonnet but now… abit like FCP you get the swing of editing and then boom we are hit with new items.
I’m in the older brigade of people and love FCP but it frightens me of the constant alteration. I ask myself for WHO???????…Pros or amateurs or just fun people. Then again we always got iMovie.
One hate I have of APPLE they done away with IDVD which worked a treat with FCP as a end package. Please bring this software back.
