I just read your whitepaper, thanks for your work.
I was trying to find out if when you archive to folder from the T&L window does it verify the data?
Can I consider that file as a reliable copy of the card for long term archiving? -
Hi
In the Log and Transfer window, cntrl click the icon of the P2 volume from the menu you have to choose archive to folder or archive to disk img and choose a destination.
I actually like it because the files it generates looks exactly like the P2 volume on the finder ( a folder CONTENT and .txt file) opposite to the P2CMS software which seems to “unpack” the files at a certain degree.
Which is the most solid method I d love to know, I don t think P2CMS verify the data neither when it copies them, plus the archive method from FCP seems a little bit faster than P2CMS, tho’ it might be my impression only.
Does anybody knows how these two method compare? -
Hi all
I wanted to understand better how the workflow works using final cut pro.
I understood that the mpeg4 need to be transcoded to apple pro res HD during the ingestion and it will take an average of 3x the real lenght of the footage.
Do the images loose quality through the ingestion? Is the process solid and painless? Would you use this camera for low budget documentaries for broadcast?
thanks for your comments

Funny enough the only work around was to log and batch capture and everything worked out fine, strange since HDV should have issue with timecode.
Btw today I got a deck and could capture now with start/stop detect for all the remaining tapes
Thanx for the help anyway

Hi Boyd
Thanx for your reply in fact I found the option in the C&L window, But is only capturing few framesI am trying to capture on an external firewire 800 lacie drive with a MacBook pro 2.4 GHz 4 GB ram FCS2 from a SONY V1 camera that shot HDV 1080i at 25 fps
I tried all the device capture preset for hdv but it always start capturing than at the bottom of the window appear a warning ‘searching for media” and it creates a clip of sometime 24 frames sometime 1 sec and 11 frames but that s it
do you have any clue where I got it wrong
Thanx for the help -
Thanx for the replies
I did read that document but it was referring to MACOS 9 or earlier versions,
the other weird thing is that navigating the drive I found few files in a folder (sound FX) that don’t have an icon, only the name, as soon as I highlight them they disappear!!! it doesn’t solve the problem and they regularly reappear each time I restart the system. Looks like are those files that are corrupted, I was wondering if I can try delete them from the terminal, or in other ways
btw I am waiting for a new drive to copy the files and see if reformatting it works
Good suggestion from Jerry to keep the bckup handy for a while and yes it s formatted MACOS + -
I need to author tens movies from betacam, it looks like is better to have a pc station doing the encoding and than author in DVDSP,also it seems there are better authoring software in pc world (sic)
Thanks for the help -
eeesssh means it is not really possible on mac??
Thanks anyway -
Thanks again to all for the advise and infos, I have been thinking about the BM extreme but at the moment I don’t have so many works HD and I found a very good deal for the SP which is really what I need, I always remember mama saying “don’t buy a ferrari if what you need is a scooter!!”
Plus next february I will have to build from scratch a new editing system with HD capabilities for a partner company and who knows what the market will offer, I’ll be defenetly looking for advise here. All the best

hey thank so much Chris and Joe, this forum is so helpful,
The deck doesn’t have SDI, and I think I ll give a try to the REF loop as a start.
I read that BM drivers can be annoying with FCP and Motion, but not about the right one for my config. I’ ll keep on searching otherwise I ll start testing them, it s just that I wont have so much time to feddle around. One more question, would the SATA second internal drive (400GB) be fast enough only to digitize the betacam SP 8 bit and compress it for DVDSP?
Thanx a ton for the help
