HOw do you do this? I don’t see that option. All L&T does is import the P2 footage and wrap it in Quicktime. It doesn’t offload cards keeping the file structure intact.

FOr that you really should invest in Shotput P2 by imaginesoftware.com. That does verify and does automate a lot of things.

In the Log and Transfer window, cntrl click the icon of the P2 volume from the menu you have to choose archive to folder or archive to disk img and choose a destination.
I actually like it because the files it generates looks exactly like the P2 volume on the finder ( a folder CONTENT and .txt file) opposite to the P2CMS software which seems to “unpack” the files at a certain degree.
Which is the most solid method I d love to know, I don t think P2CMS verify the data neither when it copies them, plus the archive method from FCP seems a little bit faster than P2CMS, tho’ it might be my impression only.
Does anybody knows how these two method compare?

OK…pardon me for taking a long time getting back to you. But WHAT P2 volume icon? I don’t see anything like that in my L&T window.

if you change the ‘show items’ button (the one on top of the Media Duration column) it ll appear the P2 volume called NO NAME and than the list of clips, cntrl click>archive to folder or archive to disk img.
I did it a number of times and it seems it is working perfectly. Obviously you can change the name of the card when you dump it to disk so that it becomes easy to assign reel names.
I m still searching on the net regarding the comparison with other archive/ingesting software/methods, but it seems nobody knows of this FCP’s feature.

Ahhhh….Now I see it. I had to put in a card to see it…naturally. i was trying to look at archived backups and it wasn’t working for that. This is really cool…I never knew this existed. I wonder when they added this. But it just archives them as the card name….so if you have multiple cards for the day, you have to manually name them after you archive. Which is fine. I still would invest $50 in Shotput P2 and have the entire process, including the naming, automated.

I guess you are right, although I still didn t use Shotput, I will spend the 50 bucks even only for the verification process before you delete the cards!!
Something that FCP doesn’t seem to do, but I agree with you this is a cool feature…. will apple ever add the verification step to the workflow?
