I’ve had this issue as well. What I do is click on another clip in the sequence that has audio, play that for a second, then go back to the clip that had the echo and it seems to stop.

No smoking here, either. I think it just might be normal for the unit and my close proximity to it. I’m moving my office out of the house this week and will move the MBP as far from me as is feasible.

Ken,
What kind of transfer speed are you getting thru the card reader and USB?
Thanks,

Interesting, maybe I’ll give that a shot.
Thanks, Chris.

Hi Jeremy,
I have a Mac Pro Quad, Sonnet Fusion 500p raid array and a couple of HDV decks on a rack close by me. I also have a BMD Multibridge Pro 2. The fan on that can be a bit loud when its been on for awhile, hence the inquiry. I had an io HD on order when they were impossible to find, but a project surfaced where I needed to act quickly, so I bought the MBP 2 and cancelled the order for the io HD.
The MBP 2 has performed well, but in my small home based office it can be a bit annoying. My email reply from BMD tech support says the fans can be a little loud and suggested an external fan to blow across the back of the MBP 2. So first step is to find a whisper quiet fan to see if that helps.
I may also rearrange my office to put the rack across the room, or find an office space outside of the house where I can create a machine room. Business has been good lately and I’ve been considering the move anyway.

I received my Multibridge Pro 2 yesterday. I had an AJA io HD on order but had something come up where I needed a new capture device with a HDMI input immediately…and since the io HD is backordered I made the jump.
Installing it was straight forward. The majority of the videos I produce are shot in HDV, and up to now, I have been editing in HDV. My desire is to now work in ProRes HQ…digitizing from an HDV deck through HDMI.
My early tests are proving to be very successful. I replaced a Blackmagic Intensity card in my Mac Pro, which is a great card for what it does, and for the money…groundbreaking really. But, when I used the Intensity to digitize ProRes HQ there was definite artifacting. So, that didnt’ work for me. I’m wondering if it was the limitations of the Intensity. I believe it really is only an 8 bit card trying to deal with 10 bit material. The Multibridge is 10 bit so there doesn’t seem to be the same aritifacting.
Another reason I went to the Multibridge Pro 2 was to have the ability to master to HDCAM if a project comes up that warrants that. I have a couple in the works. Also, of course, you can work in uncompressed HD if you desire. But, ProRes HQ looks very good, and you don’t have to have as much muscle in your raid. Great for small companies like mine!
So far, so good. The material coming through HDMI at ProRes HQ looks pristine. You certainly can not go wrong with AJA. They are great, and have wonderful support. But for me, HDMI is important. And, outside of the io HD, which is extremely hard to find at the moment, the Multibridge Pro 2 lets you injest through HDMI at 10 bit without an adapter.
I hope that BMD listens to its users and continues to improve it’s quality and support. My experience with the Intensity was good. I only hope that my experience with the Multibridge Pro 2 is similar. If not…well, there’s always another option.
Hope this helps a little.

Sounds similar to my situation, Tim. I have an io HD on order and will try to use the HDMI/firewire route you’re talking about.
The following is interesting, though…it’s from Sony’s press release about a new HDV deck coming in February.
The HVR-M35U record and playback deck is compatible with HDV native progressive recording modes and supports HD/SD-SDI output with embedded audio and timecode data. It has a 60i/50i switchable function, and supports HDV1080i (60i/50i/24p/30p/25p) and DVCAM/DV (60i/50i).
My question is, if it supports HD/SD-SDI out would that mean RS-422 control as well?

Gary,
I find this very interesting, indeed. Does this mean the io HD works differently than the io LA? We are controlling a Sony HVR M10U with a firewire card while the io LA is being controlled through the internal firewire 400 port on a G5. Video is injested through component cables.
Thanks for your input here…as many of us move to the io HD there are definately some things we need to gear up for.
