  • Thanks, Bret. I’ll give that a go when I get a chance…onto something else for now.

There is a slight audio delay when I hit play through MXO2 mini with thunderbolt adapter, otherwise playback is smooth at 1080/24p. Very big improvement. Overall interface performance seems much snappier.

Thank, Chris. I realize that it works with the files natively. I guess I should have made myself more clear. As far as color grading and such…I’m used to using ProRes which holds up well. How does color grading hold up when working natively?

[Bill Davis] ” if you define success by the ability to engage in work you love, live in a fashion that makes you happy, and attract work that pays you a robust and sustainable living wage – I implore you NOT to let others define what success means for you.”

Well stated, Bill. I was one of those video editors that was “on top” in my industry. I worked for “60 Minutes” and chose to leave the show to return to my home state and pursue what I considered a better quality of life.

Now I make a comfortable living producing, writing, shooting and editing my own video creations. And, I’m currently editing some of them on FCP X. Does that make me less of a “professional” now?

  • I’m just starting on a promotional video that will be shot entirely on a GH2 so the file based ingest suits FCPX well. I have several other projects coming down the pipe that I’m considering it for as well.

These are strictly non-broadcast videos that will be shown at live fundraising and corporate events and/or go straight to the web. Rarely do I produce things for broadcast or DVD any more. My Primera duplicator has been very lonely as of late.

The bugs are there, and the lack of “real” video monitoring is a bother, but I’m hoping that changes soon. For the kinds of videos I do, (documentary style, more emphasis on storytelling than on graphics) the combination of a more mature FCPX and Motion could well suit my company fine. I pretty much do everything from concept to completion.

But, that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been trying out the free trials of MC and PPro to keep myself in the loop for those times that I do need to collaborate!

[Chris Harlan] ” Forrest, I disagree. Aindreas’ posts, as well as all the other arguments we are all having, are fundamental. This is a forum, not a website of tutorial links. Forums are about discussion and argument. It should be clear to you that FCP X is quite controversial, and being so, has enabled a mass of passionate debate. I don’t see how any of this passion or debate is dragging anything down. In fact, it is one of the elements that makes the COW the special place it is. You offered Aindreas a metaphor about taking his ball home. I would offer you one involving heat and kitchen.”

Well put, and accepted. I know this is not a place for tutorials, and I’m fully aware of the controversy surrounding FCPX. I also understand the passion that was uncorked on June 21st…

Like many of you, I’ve been using FCP for many years now and have recently purchased FCPX, downloaded the trial versions of MC and PPro and have been sitting in front of all of them.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but when these threads become overrun by attacks, I question the value in that. We’re all trying to find what will work for us, for some it might be FCPX, MC or PPro…or a combination. Who knows?

Apple dumped on all of us, which is unfortunate. Let’s keep up the debate, I just think it would be more beneficial if it was done in a civil manner.

    Aindreas,

I have a question for you. Why do you spend so much time on this forum putting FCPX down and the people who would like to learn it?

The Cow used to be a great place to learn about new things, but its people like you that are dragging it down. Maybe its time for you to take your ball and go home!
