Start with the “current Configuration” file. Most likely this will fix it. If not, you can also delete the other files (they are recreated with their default settings automatically when you launch the program). Or you can even move the whole folder to the desktop to see if this fixes your problem, and if not move the folder back (but I am pretty sure that this should fix it).

[joyce woodworth] “I am having a problem with my media 100i 8.2… I have been editing a documentary I am it putting together on a mac osx 150 gb computer, I have completed 14 minutes of it and all of a sudden it quits and a box comes up that says “Media 100l system is locked up. Please quit” . I cannot access the media 100 again, consequently I cannot work. Do you have a suggestion? I have 45 gb left to work with, I installed the disc warrior, I did the hardware cards test, everything is o.k., but I cannot open up my project. Please offer me some of your good advice. I think during digigizing, the last clip you acquired went bad, and now if you start to launch your project the system tries to load the “bad” clip and crashes. The first thing I would do is to have a look at your media drive and find the last clip you digitized. Most likely if you open it up in e.g. QuickTime player it will show some strange behavior. Delete the clip, and chances are good you will be good to go. If this does not work, try to delete the Media 100 preferences (In YourHomeFolder->Library->Media 100 Folder->Current Configuration”.

Media 100 does see this automatically. In some earlier versions of Media 100 (around the time the transition from HFS to HFS+ happened in the OS) you got a HFS+ label to show that your drives allow files larger than 2GB, but since under OSX all drives (okay, not really all, but nearly everything you will want to use for video editing) are formatted HFS+ anyway this label was removed. The functionality is still there.

I am a little bit surprised by your post, since I tend to believe that from all professional editing applications I know (and I know quite a few) Media 100 has the big advantage that it is the most intuitive and streamlined one. I always thought and got the feedback that anybody who has some basic understanding of a Mac and of the basic concepts of video editing would find their way around in Media 100 easily.
Maybe I am wrong there, though.
The UI and the workflow of V12.7 (and the upcoming V13) of Media 100 still are based on the same workflow you see in V7 and V8, but of course with many improvements and new features.
One very basic thing you could do is to check out the Media 100 V8 tutorial to get an understanding about the basic workflow and interface. Plus, the Media 100 manuals (partially available as PDFs on the Media 100 FTP server or on your Install CDs) are very good and should also give you some hints. -

if you are still in a testing phase without any time-critical projects I would suggest trying V10.4.11 and QuickTime 7.5 (not 7.5.5!!!).
We only have a single Media 100 i system left for digitizing running V8.2.3a and OSX 10.4.11, while all other systems have been upgraded to V12.7.1 (and V13 soon). The Media 100 i system seems to work fine with 10.4.11, but since we don´t do serious editing work on them (and Media 100 has not approved it) I would not guarantee that this is a 100% reliable setup. I would be surprised if there are problems, but I was surprised that the Quicktime 7.5.5 update did break the Media 100 i codec, too. Sometimes strange things do happen. -
I would recommend going to V10.4.11 (although it has not been officially approved), or at least to 10.4.3 which is the last official version. You can get it here.
Regarding the locked drives: most likely you don´t have administrator priviledges for your user account. Go go the users preference, and look if you have chekced the “administrator” button for the user that is logged in.

Usually your media drive does not need an update. But there are some instances where e.g. your SCSI/SATA card driver needs an update. I am not sure how your media drives are connected to your system, but if you are anything special (except FireWire or internal SATA drives) you should look if there is an new driver or firmware for your storage interface card.

One thing you definitely should try is to download the V12.7 trial version of Producer to see if this fixes your problems. Honesty, I never saw problems like the ones you are describing, so I am not sure if this is something that was fixed in the meantime.
