For the next time this happens: most likely you did close the Edit Suite window. If the Edit Suite window is closed, “Export from Edit Suite” does not work.

Either the key is for another software version (e.g. not for Media 100 V8.2.3), or for another hardware. The keys are locked to a hardware board. I think if you ran Media 100 i V8.2.3 before with this board, you should give Media 100 techsupport a call. Maybe they can look up the correct code for your board (if it is registered with V8.2.3 with them).

No, the files exported by Media 100 are “normal” QuickTime files. They only have Media 100 as their creator, which means that by default they will open up with Media 100. If Media 100 is not on the system, then they will open up in the default application for QuickTime files, e.g. QuickTime player.

It does create a normal quicktime already, but a QuickTime with Media 100 as creator. If you export a QuickTime from FinalCut it will have FinalCut as its creator, and it will open in FinalCut by default.
If you want to change the app associated with this QuickTime movie, right click it in the Finder, choose Open With… and select QuickTime Player while pressing the “Option” key. The open with should change to Always Open With…, and your file should be associated to QuickTime Player. -
You can open the old Media 100 i project in Media 100 V13 and do your changes there, or you can open it in V13 and export an XML which can be imported (including the media files) into FCP.

Forgot to mention: you also need to update your Kona drivers. Download the Aja Kona 6.03 drivers from the Aja website. I think at least 6.01 (or maybe 6.02) is required for V13.0.1.

If you have V13 installed, the V13.0.1 update is free, and you don´t need to reenter your ID. Simply download the trial version and install it over V13.0, and you should be good to go.
And regarding the auto update: sometimes these auto updates can make your day really miserable, e.g. when your Software update installs a new QuickTime version which breaks all kinds of things. I prefer doing the updates manually. But of course an auto notification about new versions would be nice.

Or try a “slow import” of your media clip. Check the “convert to selected media standard and compressor” checkbox in the Import dialog, and make sure that you have selected a HD format and Codec. Maybe there is something wrong with your media files.

Then one thing you should try is to download the V13.0.1 trial to see if this fixes your issues (maybe install it to a second HD). I am not sure what your problem is, but maybe there is a bug with 12.7.1 and OSX 10.5.6. Or there is a problem with the Atto board, interfering with your Kona card…

Slot placement sounds good, so I guess it is the Expansion Slot Lane assignment. Go to your HD, into System->Library->CoreServices, and look for an app named Expansion Slot Utility. Start it and make sure that your profile is set to 4X, 4x, 1x, 16x; usually the second topmost choice. You can find more informations about that here.
Also make sure to check if you have the newest firmware and drivers for the Atto card, and the recommended Aja drivers for your Media 100 software version. Plus, how much RAM do you have in your system?
