VHS decks usually do not provide a stable video signal. You probably need to run the signal through a TBC.

Hmmm…

and these did not work also? Played back by which devices?

Overall this sounds like a cable issue. Do you use a video cable that is capable of HD-SDI signals? We had some issues with HD-SDI cables when running them through a patchbay; maybe even your cables are problematic…
How is your sync setup for your decks?

What did DiskWarrior report? Any changes to the drive? Has it fixed anything?

Additionally, you could look at the files type and creator codes. Search on e.g. MacUpdate.com for an app to view type/creator codes on OS9, then look for the T/C codes for a “blank” file and for a working Media 100 media file. Are they identical?

And, how are your drives formatted? With the Apple DiskUtility (was this already available under OS9? So many years ago…). If you e.g. do a “Get Info” on your media drive, what info do you get there?

Extended support for PSF formats (progressive signals over interlaced connections) is announced for the next version of Media 100, so chances are good that you will be able to do this with the next version.

Best would be 720*486, but set up in a widescreen aspect ratio.Or 864*486 square

2 Ways:

you either can turn off the “Reopen last opened project” in the preferences
Or you can hold shift while starting Media 100 to stop opening a project. If the project already opens you still can hold shift, and the system will stop opening the remaining Bins and Programs

You DID make backups, right? Harddrives are so cheap these days…

Not sure what happened there. Did you install anything new, any updates? What happens if you open a timeline that tries to access the media files? Will it try to relink to the media files? Does it find files when trying to relink?

My guess is that something is wrong with the directory structure of your drive. My first step would be to run DiskWarrior on the drive to see what it says. Most time with directory problems it can rebuild your drive. Maybe some files are damaged, but probably chances are good that you get back everything. On the other hand, if it is a hardware problem, it could be worse.
