If you use very very fast rotation and find that the motion blur is a bit choppy, first try changing it to a 3d layer, if you can still see discrete samples, add a “CC force motion blur” effect and up the samples.

Was the footage and the sequence used for editing in FCP also 24 fps ?

If the rendered Quicktime actually has pulldown, then remove it with interpret footage, and AE will see it as a 24 FPS clip. Do everything in 24 from there on.

if it doesn’t, it would indeed probably be best to export as a 24 fps quicktime.

if you’re using actual full motion video, you might have better results by exporting to flash video (.flv),
after that you’ll have to embed those flash videos into a flash movie (swf), for that you’ll need some flash knowledge, best to ask in the flash forum.

Unless of course you’ve got expressions that use a layer’s ‘index’ in their calculations or even if they use random numbers.

The problem with just animating the up/down motion is that it’s very difficult to sync everything together with the rotation like a merry-go round would:

each “horsey” goes up at the exact same position, even if it slows down or speeds up: they still go up at that position.

    here’s a solution with expressions:

    FreeVideoCoding.com

basically it uses the Y rotation of the parent null to calculate a sinusoidal up down in the Anchorpoint.

    the Null has controls for:
“wobbles per revolution”, “amplitude”, “merry-go round radius”, and “N

do want to actually draw the motion path they’ll all follow ?
Or can it be done with a formula: like a sinusoidal up and down along a circle ?
