    Dear Joshua,

I agree with your statement, and understand, but in our case this cut off is a big problem.
We are using two Studio to broadcast (litteraly) two chat windows from iChat.
It is a very basic use, but work. Or, better, worked.

    Some suggestions on a workaround?

    thanks

    Thanks.

How is the process to capture MXF in FCP? I have a old version and I am upgrading to 5.1 this week… and really I am not familiar with MXF

    regards

Well, I think the best way to get high quality from a PDW-F350 is using the HD-SDI out. You can use a BlackMagic HD (any model) and capture at uncompressed HD quality. Of course you will need a lot of GB in your system. Really I want to see the MXF and direct ingestion quality, because I suppose the best you can achieve only by HD-SDI.
Here we have a 330, and the output is analog component HD, is more difficult to manage. Now BlackMagic is selling a Extreme HD (with analog component HD in), I am waiting for one unit to try it.
For the monitor issue I think a good option will be the LMD-9050 from Sony. Is portable, LCD, and multiformat with HD-SDI input. Use the same battery than the camera. The list price is high (High Definition Price)
    4.266 US$.
    Good luck

Really they do not show the connection between the recorder and the computer. I suppose that the connection was by firewire because they told about a direct link with the camera and the cameras has only the firewire. If you remember the first XDCAM generation was available a ethernet card for the camcorders, but with XDCAM HD I do not see a similar solution. Also the demo show a direct access to the disk (a FAM mode?), and I think that is a firewire.

About the recorder and player my idea is that this equipments are for traditional editing suite. I am investigating a board that is offering a MPEG-2 TS (transport stream) in/out. This board will permit at the PDW-F30 (low cost player) in/out from a HDV device (computer?)?

More than this I can say you that the demo was very great, and was showed every two hours in the main theather in Apple Booth. The intoduction was a demo tape from CNN. The feel I got is a great cooperation between Sony and Apple and a strong support of this format…

Yap, I have the same problem with a PDW-F330 camera. The problem is worst because the camera output is analog component HD, in the PDW-F350 the output is a HD-SDI (and you can find very chip boards with this input). We will buy a new HD Extreme from BlackMagic, that have this input (analog component HD).

About Flip4MAC consider that the MXF transfer work in a Ethernet connection, and you need a Player or Recorder desk unit.

Really I saw the XDCAM HD TRANSFER software demostration in Apple booth at NAB and is very impressive. A Sony person told me that will be available in June. I can not wait…

You can find any Sony operation manual in the european website: http://www.sonybiz.net. You need to register and after this you can see the manuals. At the moment the manual for the PDW-F series is not available, but I hope will be in the next week. Stay tuned.
    Good luck
