As anybody here seems to be struggling against a lagging preview, do you mind post your PC specs?

    Thanks

October 4, 2011 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Multi-Cam on events with Video FX?

I’m coming here from this thread:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/936896#936935

There I asked about multicam and crop/rotate and color correction. I read John explanation above about color correction (apply it to media level).

    But what about corp/rotate?
I understand that I should apply the cropping after the multicam or do it before and then render to some intermediate: correct?

Another concern is due to the fact that I’m using a proxy for one of my three tracks and I can’t really figure out what workflow to follow.

    In detail:
    Track 1 – original media (3 clips) – muted
Track 2 – proxy of track 1 – color correction
Track 3 – original media – color correction + rotate + crop (match output aspect)
Track 4 – original media – color correction + crop (match output aspect)

As I’m only ccing (at media level) on the proxy track I should not have any problem in replacing the media just before the final render: right?

Which of the suites mentioned above should I look at for my needs?

    Thanks.

  • Won’t multicam split my clips in multiples events?

Than will I still be able to apply the crops and the correction
to the whole media at once or will I have to do it event by event?

And, most important, as I’m using a proxy track for one of the cameras,
will all this still let me substitute the proxy with the original, in the end,
and retain all the work done?

(I’ve not been using Vegas for some months so, please forgive me
if the answers to my questions are obvious).

    Thanks.

Check if one of the two temp folders you have somewhere in the settings is on a full (or almost) HDD.
It was some time ago I had the same issue and for me the problem was there.

Thank you. As clear as usual.

Anyway, let’s see if my hint solves the Andreas problem.

I recently ran into the same problem.

In my case it was not a RAM problem but just an hard disk almost full.

You should look in two places:

    – in the General tab of the preferences window you should specify the path of a temporary folder. Be sure there is at least a few GBs free there. I had only a little less than one GB free on that hard disk and so I got the message. As I moved the folder on an HDD with more space the render went OK.

    – another place where you can put the path of a temp folder is in the project properties, in the video tab. There you can specify the path for a “prerendered files folder”. I think this is used only when you are prerendering something but, just in case…

Please let us know if this solves the problem.

    @John

John, you are a professional programmer: how can you explain that, even in a big project with thousands of lines of code and uncountable ramifications, a premium bunch of programmers leave such a misleading message in a main release of one of their flagship products? I mean, Vegas surely knows that it’s a problem of paging file and not of RAM: or it is not so easy?

    Thanks.

Yes, you have to see it as a single hard drive.

I would create a primary partition (or more than one, if you like) and format it (them) with an allocation unit size of 64k if you’ll put mostly video files there. But I don’t know if nowadays there are bigger a.u. sizes to choose from at formatting time.

Better wait for some expert to answer more precisely.

    Thanks.

About the right time to upgrade, when I did it the last time about five years ago, I decided to go for one of the top possible setups of the moment, without thinking when and what would come out (maybe) in the next few months. I went for an AMD 64 FX53 and it served me well until I entered the world of video editing.
So, now I think the way to go is to an i7. As I won’t do video editing all the time and I don’t have plans to make it become a second job I chose the i7-950 as the best balance for my needs.

The same for the mobo. The only concern about it is that, maybe, in a couple of years I would be glad to have a native USB 3.0 support so I would have to get the P6X58D premium instead of the P6T v2, I think.

For the graphic card I think the gtx 460 1GB will be OK. It’s little less powerful than the 470 but it’s also cooler. By the way: have you any advice to give about which brand to buy? There are a lot of gtx 460 based cards but I don’t really know how to choose among them.

    Thanks again.

    Fabio.

    Talking about ram modules:

    which specs would be better?
    1066, 1333, 1600MHz = ?
    CL (7,8,9)= ?
    other = ?

    How much GB?

Somewhere I read of a “2GB x core rule”: does that make sense?
If yes, does that relate to “phisical or virtual cores”? So 8 or 16GB?
    Videoguys reccommend 12GB so what?

And about W764: which one (lan with no domain, just workgroups)?

    Thanks.

    Fabio.

OK I’m on my shopping route. I’m ready to buy:

    Asus P6T deluxe V2 160€
    INTEL Core i7 950 3.06Ghz 8MB BOX 198€

Looking for a GEforce gtx 460 or 470 based card: which brand would it be better? (asus, gainward, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, etc)
Which specs should I look more?

And what kind and brand of memory modules?

Ah, and what about a proc. cooler?

    Thanks.
