I imagine that inside Vegas, at some level, each event is something like a single record in a database (Autocad docet). If it is like that, each effect in the event or track fx would be just a property (or a bunch of properties) of that record.
In the end, isn’t what we call “folder” just a property of all the files in that forlder?

So, the “create master track” that, I imagine, splits and copies the events according to the markers, could add to each created event, the original event fx and the track fx too. Maybe, with the ability for the user to choose this behaviour or not.

But I’m not a programmer so, this mine is just a candid vision and a wish.

Probably it would take some more thousand lines of code to get something like that.

Anyway, if you have many clips taken indoor with constant light conditions you will have to set the levels and color balance for each of them. Yes, I know there are many tools that would let you easily select multiple events and apply effect presets to them with one click, but thay doesn’t tell you anything about the FXs already present in the events so you could end up in having to look into each event fx container to be sure of what you are applying.

In a single monitor setup like mine, the inability to see through a “calibrated” screen would prevent me to color correct or balance my videos. So I’m stuck with 10.

In a “poor” setup like mine (single core 3GBram etc) both 10 and 11 crashes and are unable to open a project I have just saved.

Vegas 9 works fine with a similar project (copied clips, markers, regions, ecc.) with no crashes. So I’m stuck with 9.

Tonight I will try to open it with a 32bit Vegas 10 on another machine.

I have three video tracks with a total of 15 events +
about 150 markers (camera selections: 1c, 2c, 3c, etc.) +
each event ha two effects (BCC levels gamma and BCC color balance) +
one master video track created with VASST Ultimate.

I see that the veg file gets bigger when I create the master track
after applying the two mentioned effects to each event.
I understand that in this track there are about 150 events
each one with its two effects.

I tried and removed the effects from all the events in the
master track but a 45 seconds region that I use to render
for testing and the veg file went back to less than one MB.
So the size growth must be related to that.
But when I try to render that loop region of 45 secs, I get
a random crash after some percent of work has been done.

OK, I still am on a single core AMD64 FX53CPU
with 3GB of RAM on W7-64 and V10(11)-64 but
I did similar things before on XP32, 2GB ram
and V9e.

Is there a way to “copy” a project from 10 to nine?

Does the Vegas built-in multicamera editing work the same?

Is there a way to apply (and edit) the same fx settings to multiple events at once?

Do you know of a quick way to copy the settings from a track-fx to the event-fx for all the events in that track?

I can only think to save them as presets and then apply them manually to each event.

I have a single monitor set up.

So the “preview device” I use while working is the same display where the Vegas UI is. I just use the “video preview on external monitor” button to switch between the UI and the preview.

Than I check the rendered output on an LCD TV playing the videos with SageTV media center.

Reading the help, I didn’t really understand if I should choose my monitor color profile or an sRGB or what else. But I’ll try to judge by eyes looking at my display and the TV set at once.

Please let me check a thing with you:

am I correct to say that, in a multicam editing with VASST Ultimate, the track fx I apply to the single cams isn’t applyed when I create the master track?

I’m asking it because I spent time and sweat trying to match color and brightness of three cams to lately understend that I should have applyed the corrections at event or media level!

You will agree that an uncalibrated TV is, by definition, unreliable so, I wouldn’t bother using “it” as a target. I can only see the white reference target as a way to get the right white balance.

But now let’s move on a bit.

I enjoyed watching the tutorials on the Sony site especially those about the various way to read what’s there in your video: vectorscopes, waveforms, etc. and I will surely watch them again to better understand them and to try and make them more friendly for me.

Now I have one doubt though: are all those tools showing me the values I see on the UI preview window (unmanaged) or those I can see on the “preview device” (secondary windows display – managed)?

Yes, I understand, probably none of them but just those that are in the file but, if this is correct, how can I possibly get a “real” color rendition (if such a thing exists…)? Just by numbers?

For me, the odd thing in all this is that I should “check with a TV set” that is probably never been calibrated!

Anyway, my goal is, at least, to match the colors among cameras so I will use my eyes with the preview on the “secondary windos display” that, in my case, is the same single monitor I have (a Formac Gallery 2010 calibrated with an Eye one hardware device so the differnt colors should be quite balanced).

To get the correct white balance, some times ago I thought to invest in a reference white/gray target but I know it’s not always enough because the light conditions can change with different framing o during the recording so, I will never see the end of this.

Thank you, John.

I opened a new instance of Vegas and copied there
all the tracks and the markers. After I named the tracks
all the dropdown boxes got populated (doesn’t sound as
a very good english…) and continued to work from there.

One thing is that, even if I selected a red PAL tally
without checking the “use safe area” box, every time
I switch camera I see an overlay that shows the safe area.
When I update the tally the overlay changes to the one
I chose but at the next camera switch I’m still getting
the safe area overlay: anything I can do?
