  • Hi, just wondering if this works fine as a camera monitor? Did you get the battery power working?

I was also wondering if this would work on my EX3 sdi for event filming in one location, probably adapter powered but battery too if possible.

    Cheers!

It’s probably not even on the radar anymore with NAB and the new products et all but I too hope they “bring it back” sooner rather than later!

okay here’s another way that’s pretty quick, great quality but a little tricky!
When I need a quick mpeg2/VOB file I record my BM Card’s output via S video to my consumer SD DVD recorder in real time. Yeah component would be better but at best I only have svideo ….it still hold up pretty good!.

From there, I “finalize” a disc, load that disc on my Mac and copy over the relevant VOB file (pretty easy to find, normally the biggest one) to the mac.Eject that disc…no longer needed! (1 disc wasted unless you can live with the crappy menu those DVD recorders make!)

I normally have a remade “disc image” DVD menu made with a dummy VOB file on my Mac and modify as needed to a new disc image. Replace that with the new VOB file, taking care about renaming exactly! I also use a program called MyDVD to check there is not a coding problem and adjusting the aspect ratio if needed. Test in Mac’s DVD Player…burn.

Bit fiddly but works well and quick if you are organised!
Best workaround until BM or others make a “simple good quality” mpeg2 realtime encoder but….probably won’t happen due to copy protection etc etc….!!!

Okay, spoke with Blackmagic direct and it seems they are well aware that lots want this feature back. Told it was not a “simple’ thing to put back in, even switchable in the prefs.

So bottom line is, they are considering it.But my guess is it’s not gunna happen.

Doesn’t help me as the 1 lane cards such as my Decklink Studio didn’t do it anyway. I could upgrade to say the Extreme HD card but then I would have to run the old driver pre 7.3 so 7.2….just to get this feature and maybe the related headaches with OS/Quicktime updates or continually reloading the old/new drivers plus firmware too!

Trying to find another way to do what I want but unless other software like FCP, Studio etc has a “video Out” choice I’m stuck.

    Hi Fellow Aussie!

Hamish, just wondered how you got on regarding your raid..what you ended up with, happy etc.? I’m surprided there were no responses on the cow. You asked a lot of the questions I’m also interested in.

I’m just about to do a major upgrade and researching options etc so any insights greatly appreciated!

Spoke too soon, it’s still not working. Declink’s capture works fine but FCP5 no!

Any ideas gang?…this is starting to get frustrating!

    Cheers!
